A portion of fish & chips now costs £11.17p

About 90% more than it did in 2019.
I can tell you, my salary has not gone up 90% in the last 7 years. More like 15% at a guess.
£11.17 for fish and chips? £16:50 for Large cod and chips at my local chippie, which is enough for 2 of us easily.

Fake news.

Rachel Reeves has told us all that inflation is 3.3% so your figures must be wrong.

Unless Rachel from customer service is misleading us ? I’m sure no one believes that.

I’m a rags to riches kind of guy. My father was a dustman yer know.

My old Dad cleared drains for a living. I just never got to the 'riches' part <wah>

He used to find live ammo from WW2 down there sometimes. Rifle rounds, anti-aircraft shells.
Kept them in a bucket of oil in the back yard (like you do).

As a nipper growing up in Thamesmead, I knew nothing but unrelenting indigence.

I used to beg the local chippy owner for the batter bits, often without success. I admit I purloined sweets from Woolworths and went scrumping for berries in Erith. I will never forget the gut-wrenching hunger of those desperate times.

I can now afford most things in life, but I'll still plump for a ketchup sandwich when hungry - except these days I'll have two bits of bread.

Salad cream on Ryvitas (the brown seedy ones) :emoticon-0152-heart<ok>

Strawberry flavour Angel Delight :emoticon-0110-tongu

The citric acid crystals pinched from wine-making kits - super strength sherbet <cracker>

Everything was cooked in lard. most people took 2 sugars in a cup of tea, and salt went on everything. Yet there was no need for pills to fight the obesity which is now commonplace but then was very rare.

The topper slice from a loaf of bread, loaded with beef crisps was often my only meal after a day at school. And I thought it was luxury.

Think we’ve had cream soda and an ice cream block before.

Angel delight yes.

And those cup cakes where you had to mix the batter yourself and then mix the icing and put it on once they’d been in the oven and finish with some sprinkles or those diamond shaped bits of sugary jelly.

Spam, corned beef, tinned fruit cocktail with carnation condensed milk. Bloody luxury.
