I'm off to Ascot on Saturday, any pointers would be appreciated guys
Can't see anything to recommend on Saturday. I would have a look in the paddock and pick the one that looks fittest, relaxed, not sweating and a good jockey, lightly raced, or on it's toes if a sprint

Failing that if you are taking your wife, let her pick one

Having a crack but races look like lotteries

13.10 Some very nicely bred newcomers. The only one with any experience is King of Montenegro whose form is fairly week so likely to go to a newcomer. But KoM was slowly away and, although ridden from some way out, was eased to finish 3½l behind the winner. Not very hopeful but available at 40/1 with B365. Could have an ew squeak

13.45 Taking a chance with Deedaydiva 11/2. Won comfortably at this level last season, staying on well up the Sandown hill.. Looked as though would come on for reappearace run and should be involved in the finish

14.20 The one I like most EW at this tricky meeting is Completely Random 22/1 with WH, in the hope that Mudbir might need the run. Btn 5¾l in a 6f G3 latest run. Best held up so this extra furlong should bring some improvement in a Class 2. Would have been happier with Moore riding (won previous two races but then it wouldn't be 22/1)

Over at Lingfield
in the G3 I like Royal Velvet 2/1
Oaks trial. At the prices I'll chance Prizeland, emphatic and effortless winner on reappearance, albeit a very slow time
Derby trial. Maho Bay 7/4 to retain unbeaten record

In the first I'd choose between the Gosden horse and Hannon horse (at Ascot)!!!

Haggas in the Derby Trial

Beckett's in the Chartwell

Good luck

Saturday’s meetings:

Lingfield (Flat) 12.55 – 4.25 (ITV: Oaks Trial 1.28, Derby Trial 1.58) Good to Firm (Good in places)
Ascot (Flat) 1.10 – 4.40 (ITV: Victoria Cup 2.20) Good (Good to Firm in places)
Haydock (Mixed) 12.45 – 4.15 (ITV: Swinton Hurdle 1.15) Good (Good to Soft in places on Hurdle course)
Nottingham (Flat) 1.38 – 5.10 Good (Good to Firm in places)
Hexham (NH) 3.20 – 6.47 Good (Good to Soft in places)
Leicester (Flat) 5.25 – 8.25 Good to Firm (Good in places)
Warwick (NH) 5.35 – 8.07 Good
Killarney (NH) 1.22 – 5.17 Good (Good to Yielding in places)
Naas (Flat) 1.33 – 5.30 Good

As usual, the Classic trials at Lingfield have attracted small fields with the dilemma about whether the Ballydoyle runners are contenders or just markers to gauge how good the other horses might be.

Just the five in the Oaks Trial (1.28) and Ryan Moore has not picked the O’Brien filly with the form (Bloom, mount of Tom Marquand) but Cameo, winner of a maiden race but twice beaten in Group 2 races. Perhaps she could come good over further (would not be their first to suddenly improve). Amora Queen is Timeform top-rated but she was out with the washing in the Fillies’ Mile and second in a handicap last time. Prizeland is the unknown quantity having won two races on the kitty litter, most recently at this venue by 8 lengths. The one that I am expecting to see winning is Charlie Appleby’s Romantic Symphony, surely the Godolphin Oaks filly, unbeaten after two starts on the kitty litter and bred in the purplest of purple.

That should leave Appleby on the double going into the Derby Trial (1.58) with what is surely Godolphin’s Derby horse. It is hard to make a case for either A Taste Of Glory or Balzac, who both look out of their depth here. Bay Of Brilliance could improve and be a factor as he did nothing wrong as a juvenile; however, this looks like it will be between the front three in the betting. It is hard not to feel that Isaac Newton is here as a marker after the week that Ballydoyle had at Chester. Maltese Cross won at Newbury on his return and the step up in trip ought to bring out improvement here. Maho Bay comes unbeaten in two but it was the manner of his performances at Kempton and Newmarket on his seasonal bow that has earned him a rating of 121P with Timeform. He thrashed O’Brien’s Amadeus Mozart in a good time without having to exert (with subsequent Chester winner Galiyan only fourth) at HQ; and clocked an impressive time on the kitty litter on debut. I expect Buick might be out to make all today. If he handles the track then he will book his trip to Epsom on the first weekend in June.

With no interest in the cavalry charge at Ascot with the short-priced good thing (that will probably get beaten by a 25/1 shot) this looks like another Saturday where I will be painting something to watch it dry. I guess it depends on what sort of racing you are looking for but I expect that the York Dante meeting next week will be (yet more) small field Classic trials and big field sprint handicaps.

<applause> I started with that one and went off it after watching Maho Bay <doh>

A winner at last but it had to be the fav. Poor day in all

I think they were poor trials and can't see the classic winners there

I thought Maltese Cross did it well but you are probably right, the proximity of Bay Of Brilliance doesn't suggest it was Derby winning form. I think AOB has tended to send his better classic prospects to Chester in recent years so I guess Isaac Newton was on a fact finding mission. I do like his low head carriage though :). It looks like Ballydoyle hold all the aces for Epsom again with 5 of the first 6 in the betting. It looks like only a dominant victory by Saxon Street in the Dante can challenge their stranglehold on the race. Godolphin's classic crop has been very disappointing thus far.

Yep. What do the French have?
