In that instance, I don't think it is stupid. Accidental or not, he gained an advantage and at the attacking teams cost.

Not all fouls, handbags, etc have to be intentional. Much like not every foul is a booking.

(I know that isn't what you were saying)
In ye olden days, the phrase used was deliberate handball, and I do think that's important. I don't think a player should be penalised for an unintentional contact if he is in the course of making a natural movement and simply can't get out of the way.
Because intent isn't always easy to tell, they've continually tinkered with the rules to try and eliminate that subjectivity, but all they've done is make everything more confusing.
It's a debatable point, and I accept that there are different points of view. Yes, it's unfair on an attacking team if an accidental handball prevents progress, but imo it's unfair on the defending team to penalise something that is unavoidable.
In yesterday's game, the defenders arm was well away from his body, and I think that one will always be given. My issue was with the commentators saying it wouldn't be given in the PL.

I know but that wasn't exactly great either. For example, an accidental handball on the line that prevents a goal.
It can't just be "deliberate", not many handballs are deliberate.

especially when it comes to penalties.
I’ve always thought a penalty is sometimes a way over the top reward for what may be a minor infringement.

For example a tiny trip on the edge of the box going away from goal could result in a free shot from goal from 12 yards with 80% chance of scoring or a cross where probability to score is probably less than 5% and the difference could be a couple of centimetres.

Why does the ball hitting someone’s hand as it goes away from goal result in a free shot?

I know nothing is ever going to change but do feel Mia be a better way for the punishment to fit the crime as at the moment a penalty seems far too greater reward.

err ia to me Mia means missing in action but clearly that isn't what you mean

Brighton losing means a win tomorrow and we are pretty much done with top 5. Bournemouth only ones that could catch - would be 9 points behind with 9 to play and a 13 GD swing (assuming both teams win tomorrow)

Well that’s Chelsea out of Cl contention now then. 10 behind with only 3 to go.

A point probably does it now unless Bournemouth win all 3 or so do Brighton and the overtake out GD.

Chelsea 6 defeats on the spin - if we can’t beat them at home next week when they’re out of CL contention and have a cup final the following week then I don’t hold much hope for Slot

And Chelsea haven't won at Anfield for years. We know what's going to happen, don't we? :emoticon-0138-think

Slots Liverpool could easily lose to Chelsea, we have taken games for granted against out of form teams all season. One win and we will probably qualify for the CL and Slot can announce that he’s off. This season has been an awful watch and a ****ing disaster…..I actually look forward to not having to watch what we’ve become and can moan about England instead <laugh>

For five months last year, from May to the end of August, we walked around with grins on our faces and a deep, warm glow in our proud chests. But tbf, halfway through September, even though we were still unbeaten, a lot of us thought "hang on, this isn't quite right." We'd excused our poor form in May as the team being on the piss. No problems, so were we.

But six or seven games in, whilst we expected teething problems with that many new signings, only Ekitike actually looked class. Yet the new signings weren't the biggest problem, imo. Szobo and Gravy aside, everyone, including Macca, Mo, Konate, and, yes, even Virgil, was underwhelming, to say the least. 'Oh, it's Jota,' said a few, and understandably. But by October/November, we could see that this team was dead on its feet, frequently outrun and outfought by the opposition, and clueless about its identity. And that, I'm afraid, isn't about new signings or Jota - it's about a half-fit side that isn't being coached properly.
