Remember it's pre diabetic so a few tweeks to your lifestyle can turn things round. A bit more exercise or more fibre in the diet.

On a serious note, I know you don't drink but if you do, stick to lite beers. If you alternate between Bud Lite, Coors Lite and Miller Lite, you get a balanced diet. If you have been advised to drink a pint a day save up your allowance for a Saturday. After 7 pints you won't want to drink any more and won't feel like eating until later the next day helping with the fasting.

I am here all week with helpful medical advice.

Dr K Tiger.

Hi everyone, the reason i'm asking is because I was told today I have pre diabetes and have to alter my eating habits, getting what excercise I can manage.
I was given a few pages about what is and what isn't allowed but I really need recipes for diabetics. Luckily over the years none of my family have had it so I can't ask them for food advice. So I'm hoping you good ladies and gentlemen can advise me on diet.
Any suggestions (clean ones) would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
I have been the same for the last two years. Really annoying as I cook healthy so don't know what else I can do

Yea, it's a ball ache ain't it. Spending tomorrow checking what I can and can't have then sending for some shopping.
As DMD mentioned, eating your daily food in a 7/8 hour window and then effectively fasting for 16/17 hours can help (you can drink water, coffee and tea), but always check with your doctor first with any advice that you take online, as if you've got other health issues, you don't want to interfere with the treatment for them - for example, some drugs you have to take with food for them to work properly, so clearly fasting won't be good for you. Best of luck with it

Hi H, thanks for the advice, i'm just looking on the lists they gave me to see what I can buy instead of buying my usual foods. I've got to get this right because I don't want to see a hospital ward if I can help it, seen enough of those to last me a lifetime.
Once again thank you for the advice, it is appreciated. <cheers>

I was diagnosed with 'borderline' pre diabetes 7/8 months age Rover(blood score was 42 if that means anything to you).I cut out sugary fizzy drinks, sugar in tea/coffee and biscuits/cakes as I did have a sweet tooth.

Went the other day, nurse was delighted as it was down to 35...

For what it's worth my lifestyle is.
1. I don't eat meat but I do eat fish.
2. Very occasional small beer.
3. No fizzy canned drinks.
4. No processed food.
5 Regular exercise - even regular walking is good.

Thanks for that Ric, they've told me my reading was 47 right on the borderline. It's really strange looking for different foods to change to when you've been eating the same foods for years. But i've had a lot of advice from people and a lot on here which i'm very grateful for. Now i've got to sort foods out from what i've been advised and food I actually like, who said life gets easier as you get older? <laugh>
Thanks for your advice mate, appreciate it.

Thanks Vern, that looks like sound advice.
I like meat but I have cut it down lately before all this happened, might have to stop it altogether.
Haven't had alcohol for the last eight years so that ones easy. <laugh>.
Not a lover of fizzy drinks, have one now and again when out and about, won't pay for bottles of water, cheeky ****ers, tap at home.
Our inner garden is a decent size so i've started doing a couple of laps round it, planning to up that as I get fitter.
Thanks for that Vern, looks like we have the same ideas. <laugh>

You need to eat less sugar and starchy carbohydrates that your body converts (easily) into sugar, such as bread, potatoes, rice, cakes etc. Most processed food is loaded with carbs so avoid. Alcohol is also converted into sugar so minimise. Although fibre is a carbohydrate, your body can't break it down so that's OK, so fruit and veg are fine. Meat and fish are also fine. Regular HbA1c tests at the doctors will tell you how you are progressing.
Good luck.
