On paper Hull have the easiest game
On grass it’s still easier
Hull V Norwich (on the beach)
Wrexham V Boro (still after an auto spot as are millwall and Ipswich)
And all 4 teams are at home
Millwall favs V relegated Oxford
Oops… all depends on Saints V Ipswich on Tuesday night <doh>
Which brings Preston V Saints into the equation

The only glimmer of hope is if they do make it into 6th they play eg Southampton and get mullered. Last season don’t forget the carrot crunchers we’re getting all excited until they got battered by Sheff U.

Not sure if this has been mentioned on this forum but I read that Cardiff had been sanctioned and fined £15k and thought I’d give it a read to see if there may be a points deduction (although the incident occurred during a cup match)

Which one of you lot were in the Canton stand at the Chelsea game? :bandit:

The FA versus Cardiff City
(1) The charge.

5. By charge letter dated 16 February 20261 The Football Association (“The FA”) alleged that

Cardiff City FC (“Cardiff”) during the EFL Cup match against Chelsea FC (“Chelsea”) on 16

December 2025 (“the match”) failed to ensure spectators and/or supporters (and anyone purporting to

be its supporters or followers) conducted themselves in an orderly fashion whilst attending the match.

6. Accordingly, The FA charged Cardiff with:

i. Failing on 16 December 2025 to ensure that its spectators and/or supporters (and anyone

purporting to be its supporters or followers) conduct themselves in an orderly fashion whilst

attending the match and do not use words or otherwise behave in a way which is improper,

offensive, abusive, indecent, or insulting which included a reference, whether express or implied,

to sexual orientation contrary to rule E21.1 of the Rules of the Football Association ;

ii. In addition, The FA alleged that the words and/or behaviour made reference to sexual orientation

contrary to FA rule E21.4.

7. Cardiff admitted the charge by letter dated 19 February 20262 and requested a personal hearing.

(2) The facts.

8. The relevant facts3 as to these charges are :

i. A post-match social media post was issued on the “X” platform at 8:25pm on 16

1 Page 4 of the case bundle.

2 Page 84 of the case bundle.

3 This summary is extracted from the various factual witness statements or other documentary material within the

case bundle.

2December 2025 by the “Chelsea Pride”4 organisation identifying homophobic chanting by

Cardiff supporters “1 minute and 30 seconds” into the match;

ii. The post was to the effect that the offensive chanting by Cardiff supporters was the chant

"Chelsea rent boy" then repeated by a very significant number of Cardiff fans;

iii. Video footage of the relevant incident demonstrates that in the 2nd minutes of the match, chanting

can be heard from the crowd in the terms “Chelsea Rent Boy, woah woah.” This is followed by

a chant of “Chelsea Rent Boy, Chelsea Rent Boy, woah woah,” which is then repeated once

more;

iv. It appears that officials and/or staff of Cardiff became aware of the homophobic chanting as it

occurred during the match. The response filed by Cardiff to this misconduct charge states5 :

a. “I became aware very early on in the game that Wayne Nash6 had heard the chant and

reported it to me. I had not heard it. The Club responded through internal messaging and

the deployment of police officers to the area where it was believed the chant had come from

(the lower part of the Canton Stand). I was made aware that around 5 or less had taken

part in the chanting over a few seconds. There was no further chanting of this throughout

the rest of the match.”;

v. It appears therefore that safety/security officials and/or staff of Cardiff became aware of the

homophobic chanting at the time it occurred;

vi. Cardiff contend that police and stewards were then positioned in front of the relevant stand. It

appears this presence led to an improvement of crowd behaviour with no repeat of the offensive

chanting.

Things have changed a lot since Garth Crookes then of Stoke was warmly welcomed by the City faithful at Ninian in 1979 and also when Man City’s Alex Williams was generously donated some fruit in the early 80’s by City fans which sparked the Citizen’s fans into bringing inflatable versions of said fruit on their away trips. <whistle>

How could the FA panel keep a straight face when the 'chant' was read out?
I would think it would be like The Life of Brian in the hearing...
Now...anyone else feel like a little giggle when I mention the 'chant'
Thilenth! I've had enough of this wowdy webel behaviour. Thtop it!

Just reading the numbers on transfers and wages in the championship. Some of the numbers are scary.
Interestingly, Swansea had the 3rd highest net spend on transfers with Wrexham highest. The way they whinge on their board, you'd think they spent nothing.
Wrexham was over £33M. A couple others spent £50M+ but made substantial sales as well.

Leicester's wage bill was over £42M while Coventry's was a little less than Wrexham's, both over £17M. Leicester need a fire sale even though they'll still have parachute payments.

Apparently Hull's wage bill is seventh highest, but thanks to a two window transfer embargo spent zilch. It means little though as free transfer Ollie McBurnie, everyone's favourite, is reportedly on over 30k a week. :emoticon-0138-think

It ticks me off as everyone is still buying into the Wrexham 'plucky underdogs hype'. they've bought their way up the leagues and hopefully will still be in the Champ next year, same as Brum and their chimney stadium. You have to look behind the headlines, spent all that dosh and still carp

I'm sorry, I don't buy into this "spent a lot of money". In total, they were bought for 2 million and surely DID spend big for where they were, but the total is not big given the progress and current position. They needed to buy and had no-one to sell precisely because of where they came from. Cov have had the benefit of selling that Geeky bloke and sold others to buy their present team. And our francie is pulling a good wedge, I'm sure.
It has done wonders for the town too.
Others have similarly spent big. Even we have bought big (but badly!) and are still carrying huge debt despite huge write-offs/conversions.
And their recent income was a share sale.
Think of bloody Huw Jinks......took a small risk, raped the club with fees along with his mate, sold and made a bomb and eventually bought Newport and did nothing with his millions. Not sure why he bothered. The lottery winner did more for Newport with his one million.
Rant over.

It's also easy to forget that Wrexham somehow made themselves a proposition by staying reasonably competitive with very little cash. However, staying competitive without progressing is the top of the slippery slope. Although they have a good and loyal fanbase, the risk of following their local rivals into obscurity was very real especially with four giants on their doorstep.

As FfB has pointed out, the positive effect on a a very run down community is worthy of praise on it's own, let alone the fact that a club with a long history is safe for a few years at least.

Yes, it's a nonsense that success is so easily bought but I think that's an issue for football in general not just one club.

Don't think I like it though. I want Cardiff City to be the most successful club in Wales.

Im watching PSG v Bayern. 5-4 with 2 mins to go. Stunning game.
No need for BBM to watch. Two years time maybe. :emoticon-0105-wink:
Seen the highlights now - wow :emoticon-0104-surpr

None of the horseshoe passing sequences and careful probing we see so regularly but high lines, open spaces and exceptional skill, pace and quality. 9 goals suggest defensive frailties, which whilst there was some, even the best defensive units would have struggled to combat the offensive play on display.
