THis BBC article prompts some thoughts:

Watford mired in 'annual end-of-season slumber'

It's Groundhog Day for Watford. With the play-offs out of reach, the Hornets have slipped into their annual end-of-season slumber, with low-key performances which instigate boos from their own fans.

It started with the 2-0 loss at Oxford United on Saturday, when manager Ed Still had to apologise for not taking it to an opposition side "who wanted it more."

It remains to be seen how Watford navigate the next few games when there's no jeopardy.

Do you stick a rocket up the current squad and at least ask them to put a bit of personal pride in their performances to collectively get some results?

Do you motivate the players by giving them a target to end their four-game winless run away from home?

That could be achieved in the remaining two trips to West Brom and Middlesbrough. But both of those sides still need wins for different reasons.

Or do you try something more radical?

The manager has said planning has already begun for next season and is happening in between these games. But what happens if these games are more obviously being used in the planning process?

Perhaps he should tell players who think they are a shoe-in for next season that the next four games are a trial to decide their role in this club going forward.

That may mean some unusual formations, more risk-taking and a greater chance of further defeats.

The Watford fans would have to tolerate using the last few games as an experiment for building a better future. Will they just stay away if the defeats continue?

It's a brave strategy which may take more man and fan management. But if Still is determined to make this club his future, he may want to create disruption now to create a better Watford for next season.

I have it Mr YH, You take over the club, set an example to Mr Pozzo by NOT giving him his P45 - give him a trial as the Kit Man ,but please DONT keep him as a Consultant.
(66 Irankunda looks very concerned at being photographed, hope he's not wanted for something)

I would be interested and you could be my PR man ;)..... or maybe not!

Irankunda certainly would be a challenge

Considering the players they brought in when they first were in charge...we seem to be getting lesser players these days.....
The scouting system isn’t what it once was .

Seems to be that the only real plan is to buy young then hope to sell them on or players out of contact hoping they get fit enough to make a meaningful contribution. Then if it doesn’t work blame the manager after giving him the big hype when appointing him .

I would consider myself ,like you I believe ,to be a Proper Supporter over the years who attended- even though I may moan about them lately, so am upset you might not want me to join.Would only have asked for a few Luncheon Vouchers in return. I shall approach Kenilworth then - and they've got a CUP !
If you take over though, you may have to reduce some of your travelling Reg Dwight was often found to be performing at The Odeon Isle of Skye, Moscow Bingo Club etc when he failed to attend matches in his 'Boss' days

When the Pozzo's came in and saw Watford promoted, after a couple of seasons up we were one of the richest 50 clubs in Europe according to (I think) Forbes or some such. When the Pozzo's played the system to great effect, the authorities changed the rules.

Then folks with deeper pockets came in for clubs here and the money has gone from a bit silly to absolutely hatstand. They've also changed the rules on which players clubs can effectively steal: Watford have been victims on a number of occasions, regardless of whether the talent has actually fulfilled its promise.

I don't think the scouting system has lost its way so much as the deeper pockets have found a way to best us at our own game... And god forbid that we're actually allowed to win something other than a play-off final.

The Pozzo's, for all the mistakes they've made along the way, have been victims of their own success to a significant degree. Not quite a top 30 English club anymore, let alone a top 50 European outfit.

The answer? ****ed if I know! Accept our lot, perhaps, and hope for those occasional champagne seasons?

Unfortunately their scouting system has been copied and enhanced by others particularly as you say those with money to burn .

We still get good players but maybe more not so good either and have to look for short term deals .

"Luca Kjerrumgaard never looked like scoring"

A bit harsh on the guy - he was only on the pitch for about 15 minutes, by which time the rest of the team had given up, and he was deployed as a lone striker. He can't conjure goals out of nothing.

I suspect he'll be gladly packing his bags and heading off to Udinese in a couple of weeks time - regretting that he agreed to come here in the first place.

He started at WBA but yes seems to have been in and out of the team carrying an injury I think- like so many .

Apparently got an obligation to buy K9 for 3-5 million in the summer which again isn’t his fault but only going to add to the pressure on him.

Anyway doesn’t matter what we think on Still as doubt he will last and the knives will be out for the next manager before long unless they do a Lampard at Coventry and even that took a bit of time which no one gets here .
