Short was one of my main options for our last overseas slot. Good signing for Fire.

Glad WF came in for Cook there.

It strongly implies that we're looking at a £31k overseas player, and thus have up to £75k to splash out on an extra 15th player. And we could do with a back-up bowler.

A year ago, Pretorius being on the list at £31k I'm sure would have interested many. But after a brilliant start to his career, he has stuttered.

Seven overseas players left. And whichever team waits until last will know that no-one can outbid them.

And we're the last team.

Malan and Turner I think were the only domestic players with a base price of more than £31k who weren't picked. There was also Moeen from the original list, who got cut from the final list.

All three will drop down to £31k for the wildcard draft.

I really do sympathise with Sussex over their financial situation, but I would love Coles at Hampshire.

Sounds like Neser has been pulled out of his deal with us. Which means we'd have lost our second overseas player shortly before the season starts for the second season running. Feels like the universe is punishing us for letting Abbas go.

I wonder who this season's Brett Hampton will be?

And now Seales isn't coming either.

Whereas Abbas is presumably just days away from heading to Derby.

Yes, you'd have thought that they would have waited to have all the required documents in place before announcing the signing???

The whole idea of releasing Abbas was to 'rebalance the squad', particularly with no Vince, so it would have made sense if we'd gone after more of a batter. I suppose Neser and Jack Edwards are both capable with the bat. Having now signed Lehmann, though, we're back to square 1 and we might as well have retained Abbas if we are just going to get another overseas seamer in alongside Abbott.

I have no idea who they might have lined up, but (thinking in my usual cautious manner about our batting) someone who can bat at, say, 8 as well as bowl seam would be very useful. I don't know exactly how fit Fuller is, he's yet to feature in the warm-up games (nor have Turner or Wheal??).

So it turns out it was Trinidad and Tobago who stopped the Seales move, not the WI cricket board. Can't really attach any blame to Hants here, presumably the WICB had no objections once Hants contacted. It must be very rare for a regional cricket board to step in and object.

It looks like it's Codi Yusuf as the Neser and Seales replacement. Had a decent spell for Durham last season and might contribute the odd 20-30 with the bat at around number 9?

Yeah that's decent at this late stage.

We've got Domingo to thank for that. They'll probably be flying over together after the SA one-day final on Sunday. They won the four-day competition together last month, so they're going for the double.

Looks like the Sheffield Shield final could finish a day early, which might mean that Lehmann arrives in the UK slightly earlier than planned this week.

Not a great final for him though. Scores of 10 and 1, and probably a defeat. But he's still just in the top 10 run-scorers for the season.

Or not! Great win for SA even of Lehmann didn't score many runs.

Yusuf confirmed. I wonder if he excels whether we can extend his spell with us or get him back for the final block of CC games at the end of the season.
