I think it was but it would be hard to justify that claim now

I agree, it's become significantly easier to win since they stopped dropping the 3rd place champions league sides into it.

It's still considered bigger than the two English domestic cups though rightly or wrongly, so I'd like Newcastle to land in it. If Newcastle can win that or the conference league next season it's another pot and only a good thing for the club.

Some will be snobby towards the conference league, but if Newcastle win it they'll be buzzing. The trophy snobbery that's crept into football I find repellent... It stems from a small collection of fanbases that have become too used to winning multiple competitions.. It has no place in the fanbases of clubs outside that imo.

I'm actually pretty sure it all started as just a big 'we didn't want to win that anyway' flounce you know.

Yeah I agree, it would be far from the end of the world for us to have the odd season in one of those competitions. We’d have a great chance of winning them and I certainly wouldn’t complain at that.

Anyone still think we will get champions league to attract the players we need to progress as a club.
After the last 3 games my original post seems to be more appropriate.
Or are we just no matter what

Can you please be more coherent.

Oh well. We might do better in premier league next season as not be in the champions league again.
But the money we’ve earned will be handy going forward.
Hopefully we can attract players without top European football
I will enjoy the 2nd leg in the Leazers end as not sure when I will see it again.
( got ticket for that. Not sure I get one for last 16 game )

Maybe we should have concentrated on the premier league this season.
Only way the club will/can progress is by having champions league revenue year after year and not once in 2 or 3 years.
Anyone confident we get top 4/5 next season without the extra games.
I am not

Howe bulldozered his best team through the cups, which probably hasn't helped. The fixtures weren't kind, but you still have a choice.

To answer your question, I'm not because I don't think Andy Howe and Eddie Howe being in control of recruitment will pan out any differently this summer.

I keep hearing the excuse Howe didn't get his 1st 2nd or 3rd choice, but that's probably perfectly normal in football, but it's just that our summer got played out like a soap opera.

It's also unknown to us which players Nickson suggested signing to Eddie that he subsequently rejected .... Rayan is a name I've read he turned down and Doue a while back before he went to PSG.. It could be true it could be false, but what I'm saying is we don't know, so this happy clapper excuse that he didn't get who he wanted is simply based on an argument from ignorance. The plus is that club insiders do know who Howe said no to.

All we know is that things didn't work out....would you like Howe and his nephew to continue or take a back seat in this area? I'm hoping Nickson gets more of a say, but it won't happen.. Howes nature is to double down on what he thinks even if it's not working.

In truth the suggestion that Eddie and Andy Howe have this all powered control over recruitment also comes under this “could be true, could be false “ mantra. The facts are really in your statement that we just don’t know. The argument that they have this control is also an argument based on ignorance. This also applies to all rumours about Mitchell, we just don’t know so speculation about him is just that.
The only real facts we know for certain for now are that last summer’s window was very bad for us whoever may or may not have been to blame. This summer will be a very big one for us to regroup/rebuild. Let’s hope it’s a very good one.
