Some Sargent quotes from The Athletic:

Asked if he had a message for the Norwich fans, Sargent looked down at the floor and stared for 10 full seconds before lifting his head to answer.

“I prefer not to talk about it right now,” he said. “And if there’s a correct time to kind of address them, I’ll do that. But, yeah, I prefer not to talk about it right now.”

Asked later about how he managed to stay mentally prepared to play again during the drama, Sargent again declined to answer.

“I’m probably not going to get too much into all the past,” he insisted. “I’m just trying to look forward and (I’m) excited to get started here. I know that’s a boring answer, but I don’t want to get into it.”

“Off the pitch, my family is growing,” Sargent said. “We have three kids now. The thought about moving closer to home and my kids growing up and being able to see my mom and dad more often, my wife’s mom – that’s, of course, a very attractive thing for us and excites us. As well as speaking to Toronto, to the coach and to Jason (Hernandez) the sporting director, and just hearing what they had to say and their plan with everything, this kind of rebuild that they’re doing, everything just sounded very exciting to me. It got me very excited about coming over here and playing in MLS. So I’m excited to experience the league and get started.”

“Knowing how hard Toronto worked to get this deal done … they worked their butts off to get this done,” Sargent said. “And that just makes me extremely grateful for what they’ve done, for waiting it out, for sticking through everything. And it just makes me want to repay them, and makes me excited to get started, to be honest, and just work as hard as I can for this club.

“I understand that (the transfer fee and contract) probably comes with a responsibility that you have to perform, but I know what I can do. I know I’m a good player, and hopefully I can hit the ground running and get started right away.”
“Anytime I can get back with the national team, it’s a huge privilege and honor. And I’d be more than happy. But with all this going on, I’ve just been worried about getting here and getting started. That’s kind of been my main focus. Of course, if you do well at your club, that puts you in a better position to get with the national team. So full focus right now is on starting out well here, start scoring goals, and that should hopefully put me in a good position to get a call-up.”

I have no idea about the wages in the MLS but some are saying this will be a big payday for Sargent. Anyone have any idea what he’s likely to be in? He was in £35k here roughly I think.

Ben Knapper on the sale:
“Josh has been clear with us for some time about his desire to leave. In finalising this transfer at this stage, we believe we have secured the best possible deal for the club. We can now all move forward with a sense of clarity, fully focused on the remainder of our season.
Regardless of the manner of his departure, Josh has been a significant part of the club's recent story, contributing greatly and captaining the team on many occasions. He now moves on and we wish him well for his next step, and for his future beyond.”

Phillippe Clement on the sale:
"I think the club gets get a good price for a good striker. So of course, as a manager, you want to keep all your best players, but if there's the right amount of money for players, we know also that we're not in a situation to stop that, and that's the case now," said the City chief.

"So I wish him all the best. I really liked him as a player when we were working together, there's not been issues afterwards, also when he was training with the under-21s so I wish him all the best for his future.

"I don't think he made the right decisions with not to play in that moment, but you will learn out of that. And I wish him all the best, and I hope he's really successful in MLS. It would be good for also our club, to show that there are really good players coming out of here.

"(Do you hope the manner of the ending does not overshadow what he did in a Norwich City shirt?) I always hope that, like all the players are like my children, it feels like that. I had also moments in my life that were periods that with the children you bump and you have fights and you have arguments.

"I never had a fight. We had arguments with Josh, but never a fight. So that happens, and, okay, it's been a short period. I wish everybody the best for my ex-players. There's now an agreement where the three parties are happy with the situation.

"I wish I could have kept him and even more in this situation that we are now (with injuries), but that was not an option anymore in these circumstances, and when the three parties are happy with the result we need to move on, and and to be happy for for everybody."

"Norwich City captain Kenny McLean has said he will be staying with the Championship club next season. The 34-year-old Scotland international told BBC Radio Norfolk that an option to extend his deal had been taken up. McLean made his 300th appearance for the Canaries in their FA Cup defeat at Leeds United on Sunday. "I didn't want any attention on me. But yes, I'll be here next season," he said."

Yes apparently the option to extend was taken up when JHT was the manager

Rumours on X that Sargent is on £115k a week at Toronto, quite the pay rise from £35k here

That would put Josh among the top five earners in the MLS (top two being Messi and Son). And he's not even assured of a World Cup place in the USMT! Hard to credit I'd say. CAD 115k would be equivalent to £63k and represent a near doubling of his Carrow Road wages. Somewhat more believable.

Considering the fee is said to be up there with the top 5 paid for a player in the MLS I’d say it’s not implausible. Sargent is coming at the peak of his career age wise, while Son was arguably past his better years. Messi is just phenomenal so no comparison can be made.

It seems Macondes and the club have reached an agreement for him to leave now on a free. The transfer window is still open in Norway and Sweden and apparently there are clubs interested in a deal.

He’s played 20mins since mid-December in the midst of an injury crisis, clear to see he’s not a part of the current set up
