PinkUn are reporting that Neil Adams is retiring from his role as Ben Knappers number 2 at the end of this season.

Lee Dunn will step up to be Ben Knappers number 2 and the club will recruit a replacement to lead the recruitment staff.

It won’t be broken up though and hopefully will benefit from having someone that has been in that role now assisting the sporting director. I see it as greater knowledge of recruitment closer to Ben Knapper.

I’ve always wondered what Neil Adams role actually involves, does he have any decision making power?

Neil Adams was at the club for our promotions so he must have did some good!

I think 60 is a likely age for retirement for Neil. The game has changed hugely from when he was a player. Pressing and other relatively recent tactical changes put heavy demands on players. It's no coincidence that the number of injuries has gone up since Farke and then others have followed, increasing the demands on players. I look on WhoScored before every game at opposition injuries and though none are as bad as ours, there is also a significant rise at other teams. It's why our squad has grown under PC and why so many substitutions are allowed and fully used.

Adams has provided a useful continuity for the inexperienced Knapper, but Attanasio sees the consequences of injuries and has employed the consultancy group to get to the bottom of it. With such a young squad, there is little injury evidence to draw upon, so we need numbers. It's amazing what PC has achieved in spite of such a high rate of injuries.

Game has got too bloody complicated since the days when you had a Manager who did all coaching and decided which new players he wanted, a Trainer with his sponge and a bucket of cold water and a Secretary who did all the paperwork. I am genuinely beginning to lose interest- only administrators could turn a good idea like VAR - if used properly a quick resolution over obvious errors - into the chaos it is today. It was a simple game which used to have simple rules which everybody understood. You kick the ball, you head the ball you put the ball in the net and the Team that scores the most wins. Simple until an army of coaches and administrators get involved. I can't be the only one who is beginning to lose interest.

Consultancy group? My understanding is that the review last summer was carried out by staff from Liverpool FC (facilitated, I imagine, by Attanasio's friendship with John Henry). Have there been two "investigations", rather than just the summer one?

My recollection is a consulting firm which specialises in injuries, one which I think he had used for the Brewers in Milwaukee. That was in addition to the Liverpool connection.
