Football is kinda **** these days, isn’t it? The amount of safe passes is unreal. Everton Man U is just pants.

The product on show is ****e compared to even 20 years ago never mind before that... Couple that with the fact it's actually all decided off the pitch by revenues and financial rules and you've been sold a fake sport..... Unfortunately we're all addicted to fake gear.

Actually the psychology is the fear of letting go no matter how crap it is.

Many years ago I said to my son that money would kill the game as we know it. I agree with both Roly and CC, in many respects it absolutely has on so many levels.

Aye, it’s carrying on through psychology and tribe mentality, the kids these days don’t give enough of a toss, football will have to reset heavily in the coming years. Sadly it’ll go the way of yank sports, all marketing, bling and halftime shows. Tribal love will be dead in a couple of generations. And that’s all football really is.

Money has always decided the title, it's just more extreme now due to the likes of the CL and the World Club farce.

It's really quite interesting and worrying for old farts like me. At the time my lad said I was talking " out of my sentimental old arse ". Now he's having to concede that not just me but most of the blokes we went to the match with were right. He's now in his mid 40's and whilst his love and support for Newcastle hasn't lessened, he's more than cynical about football and what it's become.

It's possible that as people get older, they become cynical jaded and miserable about most things in life and football is no different.

A little lad starting out today will be just as mesmerized by the sport as you were as a kid, all whilst your Grandad was moaning about how "bloody rude that Clough man is"

This is true! I become more and more miserable every day and I've had a lot of them now.

But Villa have the 7th highest wage bill so are only punching by 4 places, which is what Howe did. Add in they’re never in the UCL and you can see how they can do it. Not being in the UCL meant we could qualify twice. As soon as we’re in it, we’re nowhere. Villa will find that out next season, whereas we’ll be top 4 this time in a year. At some point Villa and Newcastle will nestle into a new order, which is good, and if the City rumours are true - 40 pt deduction, Pep leaving and Maresca coming in to the Championship - there’s another seat at the table.

Blimey. Genuine opportunity for Newcastle to reach the CL final. Hilarious. Good record against Arsenal, who alongside Barca are the strongest on that side of the draw. Should we get through the next round I would fancy our chances against both Spurs and Atletico.

Semi final would be seismic for this football club, even if it means going out to the eventual winners, Bodo/Glimt.

You just have to love being in European competitions.

If we had Drawn Chelsea instead of Barcelona our route to winning the CL could have been

Chelsea

Spurs

Arsenal

Liverpool/Manchester City

Imagine we do beat Barca, it spurs or athletico next, there's a small chance we could reach the semi-finals of the champions league......that's mental.
