Should SB3 be very afraid Rich ?! PS. I think even Sweep would have put away at least one of the good chances "Ging Gang" Guly fluffed. Can't see him cutting the mustard in the Premier League, can you ?
SB3 should be very afraid......there will be a lot of water under the bridge when we next meet...Saints and squad are improving all the time....just hope Pompey still have a ship to sail when we meet nextl!!!
I just posted this on the Echo forum, would be interested to hear your responses on here too, "Having seen NA on his post match interview, I have never seen him so down, no smiles, no quips, he seem to think that he and the side had let the fans down, I don't think so, what do you think, Rickie was also downbeat despite attaining hero status through scoring against the skates. Somehow we have got to raise their spirits if we are going to get the response we require, all of this player knocking trash isn't going to help at all."
Haven't won many games recently though, have you Archers ? I fear for your promotion chances if Lambert gets injured - who have they got to bring into the side in his place ? You can have Kanu for £3 million + Lallana as part of the deal.
We are over reliant on Lambert. He will always play if fit, but Barney and Connolly out has been a blow. We'd be top if we had a second striker..oh, wait a minute...
I must admit that despite the banter on here from Pompey's fans (me included !!) regarding Rickie's "size", he did play well yesterday, and I have (don't repeat this) a sneaking admiration for him as a player. There, I've said it
I really thought we'd get beat. having watched the game, I am disappointed not to have won it. I didn't think Pompey were any good and was actually surprised they didn't rough us up a bit more. We seemed a little stale, though did knock it about abit in the second half. Guly has been battered by the fans, but i think he only missed one real chance, the other was a great stop by the keeper. As for their goal, I wouldn't want Guly anywhere near our area ... stick him on the half way line. We are not firing as we were, but have stayed top. Sign of a good team? I wouldn't want to be Palace or Bristol City facing us next.
And if you compare photos of him from when he was at Bristol Rovers, and in his first and second seasons with Saints, and NOW, you'll see a player who has steadily lost weight until now he's a much leaner version of the bloke who used to play for Bristol Rovers. He's even got a bit of pace about him too..! EDIT: Here is Sir Rickie playing for Rovers prior to getting on the SlimFast. Then one from this season with Saints. Now don't try to tell me that stripes are slimming..! He's plainly smaller.
We had more possession, more shots on target, more shots off target, stayed top of the league and we didn't spoil Christmas for our rivals down the road. I'd say Saints won the moral victory.
fatletiss why do you think we would have roughed you up - if anything it was one of your players who got away with a very bad challenge - we are not a dirty team - we had card problems under Cotterill but I think we have tried to play football under Appleton - and for the record apart from a ten-minute spell each neither side played that well on the day - a draw was about right - you have some decent players and you will, I expect, be there or thereabouts come season end - however watch out for Palace - a good team who can surprise a few I think.
