Market was dead but I don’t see that as a reason for us not to have strengthened, or at least tried anyway.

We were in need more than a lot of clubs for some additions, a crazy injury crisis coupled with a severe lack of star quality meant we should’ve been one of the clubs on the front foot.

I think it’s been made even more worse for us after the cash injection and talk of being more ambitious post-Levy, which has so far proven complete bollocks. In fact knowing Levy, he would’ve at least tried for a deadline day special. Lange was probably playing with a colouring in book.

I completely agree, and have said the same about not wasting money. We’ve done enough of that in the past.

But I still feel that the board have had long enough (Sept-Dec) to identify targets, and seen for a long while now how we’ve been crying out for help on the pitch. It’s their job to find solutions, and as I’ve said, there’s months prior to the window to try and sort it. Fair enough if there’s no one out there in the market, but I feel that’s an easy excuse for our lot. Hopefully I’m wrong, and we wee a huge change of approach in the summer window. But we’re so used to being left short in the summer too, that I can’t help but feel it’ll be a rinse and repeat again, and we’ll be having the same conversation in Sept 2026.

My fear for the summer is that, to quote Metallica, the light at the end of the tunnel is in fact a freight train heading our way.

Years and years of neglect have left the squad on unbelievably thin ice. Barring a miraculous turnaround and somehow getting Europe next season (I don't see this happening), the fear now has to be that the few good players we have will look to leave.

Some will force a move through, others will be locked in a broom cupboard and forced to stay. But it will leave us with too much to do in the space of one window and we will for the - what is it now, fourth season running? - find ourselves going into a season with a weaker squad than what finished the previous one.

Romero, VDV, Porro, Kulusevski and Udogie are all players I can see there being a lot of interest in. And whilst we would make a pretty penny from their sales, who could we attract who would be good enough to fill their boots?

Alasdair Gold certainly not holding back

The Lewis family injected £100million into the club in October last year but the supporters are pointing to a first window under the new regime that has seen a net spend of £13million...The pressure now falls back on Frank to make something out of the hand he has been dealt. The club made a big thing after sacking Postecoglou about wanting to compete on all fronts. Very little done on the surface since has helped that become achievable. It's a club that always seems to be looking to the future and the long term and perhaps forgetting to look straight in front at the present.

The lack of signings is a clear indicator for me that deep down they don’t trust Frank. In which case, he should have been sacked.
It feels like all 3 January signings are club/future signings.
We’re created a bizarre situation where the board won’t back the manager, the fans don’t like the football of the manager, and we find ourselves in a sort of purgatory where everyone’s miserable. <laugh>
All signings should be club or future signings. He is the coach not the manager and should have little involvement in recruitment.

I think we've had our five highest net spend seasons in the last five years with this one being the highest of the lot. You can argue about how we have spent the money but neglect isn’t the right word.

if the aim of the owners is to provoke a negative fan reaction, they've done an outstanding job.

To spend approx £15m net is simply appalling when they stated clearly that they were pumping a £100m in to the transfer kitty to build a "winning squad".

Seems that Frank is only here until the summer and then we'll be on our 6th full time manager/coach since 2019.

No doubt we'll get another "we are committed to building a team that can challenge " type message come the summer managerial circus before we rinse and repeat.

Romero hasn’t held back on instagram!

Wether we think he’s good enough, or his temperament questionable etc etc, it’s irrelevant imo

He clearly believes he should be part of a quality squad competing at the top and I think these comments he has been making the last 6 months or so will end in him getting a move to a club better than us

and I for one, do not blame him

I don’t even think he intended to criticise the Club. I think he was simply trying to say that it was a ridiculous situation we have so many injuries. “Disgraceful” in Spanish has a different nuance so it’s potentially simply a case of a bad choice of word where he intended to comment on the number of injuries rather than inadvertently criticise anyone.

Romero the expert in recruitment then? Probably trying to get the club to punish him by leaving him out so he’s fit for the World Cup.

I wonder what assurances were made to him when he signed his new contract in the summer, and to what extent he sees those assurances being broken.

He's probably seething inside, wants to leave but knows that the club will likely price him out of a move because he has 3 years left on his deal.

Only choice is to hand in a transfer request and lose whatever fat loyalty bonus clause that breaks.

I genuinely think we may see a few “Isak’s” come the summer.

Yeah very likely.

I think Romero’s sick of the club and to be honest I don’t blame him, I am as well. But I’m so removed nowadays I just barely care any more. Few years back I’d be ranting and raving, now it’s just “oh well”.

I do find it incredible that for such a big club with so much potential, we have legitimate idiots running it into the ground. The sheer fact a club of our size has a genuine concern for relegation reeks of incompetency from those at the top and it’s hardly like it’s a one-off now after last season’s league finish.
