It can't be a coincidence that all our fast bowlers get injured so often/frequently. Back in the days of Trueman, Statham, Loader, Higgs etc they played a test, then a county match, then a test etc. Always playing so their bodies were well oiled by use, no rest and rotation to allow their muscle structure to get out of tune. I cannot remember those players missing major parts of series. If you don't use it you lose it. Today's namby pamby approach is the cause of these injuries.
In his career Freddie bowled 19,330 overs in total , that is something like a thousand a year for his full career. And he was banned from test cricket for two of those and not selected for several others at the end of his career. Stuart Broad bowled about 7,000 overs and Mark Wood 6,400 in the more modern times. These figures are taken from their wikipedia pages. This means Wood bowled, so far, just a third as much as Trueman.
For comparison, I checked the figures for Denis Lillee. He bowled about 12,000 overs in his career.
