As the racing is dire with a capitals D I R and E, why not add to the thread by asking the 606erati what their best racing moment of the year was?

Oddy, what was your moment of the year?

Bit boring but every time Frankel ran I had butterflies in the stomach he made my racing year. A big fan of Sir Henry too and delighted for him!

From a personal view it would have to be my very first visit to the Cheltenham Ferstival, on the Tuesday. Absolutely unforgettable experience even though I did my dough.

In terms of performance: Frankel's Guineas on the flat (will we ever see the like again?) and Big Bucks at Aintree over the sticks - the enduring image of a motionless Ruby Walsh half a length up on Tom Scudamore throwing the kitchen sink at Grands Crus.

One of the things about watching a rerun of Frankel's Guineas win, is that we all know what's about to happen. We didn't on the day. We expected him to win, but the way he blasted straight to the front and made every post a winner, was breathtaking. Easily the best win of the year.

I have three moments if I may -

Kauto Star winning at Haydock, the return of the king. Special horse and special win.

The Tatling retiring with a win. Such a favourite of mine.

Monet's Garden parading before racing and returning to better health.

Whilst Frankel was special, those other moments were more spinetingling for me.

Morning, useless racing today so I like the new plan!

For me the hairs standing on end moment was the Sussex Stakes. Richard Hughes had Canford Cliffs right where he wanted him, in behind and stalking. It was like a game of chess as both horses cruised into the straight, who was going to show their hand? It was Hughes who showed Canford the whip before using it, all the while Queally sat motionless on Frankel. Canford Cliffs made no impression on the superstar and then, with a nonchalant flick of his fingers, Queally released some reign and said go. The response was more than I, and probably most of us expected, as Frankel smashed the next best miler in Europe. He effectively won the race in four or five strides and it was very telling to see that a horse of Canford's ability was so well beat he was veering allover the track.

Over fences it was the Gold Cup, when Denman and Kauto took it up towards the end. Ok, so the fairytale wasn't completed, but for that small momment where it looked like we might have the two oldtimers doing battle again, the hairs were up again. There's a classic line from the commentator, something on the lines of "denman, Kauto and Imperial Commander, a who's who of Gold Cup history."

Sports moment of the year, however, was being at Newcastle 4-4 Arsenal. :D

Speaking of Black Caviar. This year she contested the G1 Newmarket Handicap, the premier sprint race in the nation. This is the Australian sprinter's Arc. it draws the best. The filly you asked about is Atlantic Jewel. She had the Oaks at her mercy, but had a slight strain, so they rested her. The link below is Blacky in the Newmarket.

Frankel, Big Buck's, Black Caviar, The Tatling's final winning race, Kauto Star's return win at Haydock, the Group 1 July Cup success of Hayley Turner on Dream Ahead to scotch comments of a while ago that she would never win one...........just a few of the memorable moments for me in 2011.

Morning, one. Morning, all. Hey liven up, everyone. Chop, chop. ITS CHRISTMAS!!!!!

Nothing for me to day although I don’t think it’s a bad days racing by any means. Just nothing has attracted my eye. However, hopefully I’ll be able to put something up before Christmas in order to help the old regular readers out with the old expenses.

Meanwhile, my mole at the Met (Office not roplotian Police) advises that by the end of the week temperatures will be fairly balmy over the South of the Isles with the mercury hitting 13 degrees. Sadly, no ‘White Christmas’ therefore but the good news is that it looks highly unlikely that Kempton Park, on St Stephen’s Day, will fall for a second year running.

If you want to hear a funny German commentator, look on youtube for the video of Overdose winning the Lanson Cup in Baden-Baden (18th May 2008). The German lad commentating is brilliant <laugh>
