A good series on Netflix to watch - Mr Mercedes , a tense thriller :emoticon-0148-yes:
Watched it when it first came out, I enjoyed the first series but after that it got a bit too much in the realms of fantasy for my taste. You can't beat a bit of Dexter, he's a very naughty boy, how far is it from Miami to Brazil? :emoticon-0138-think

Christmas Telly seems particularly lacklustre this year :emoticon-0118-yawn:
(talking about the traditional free to air channels).

Though for me it's not been the same since TOTP was scrapped. I used to like the Xmas Day lunchtime edition.
And they haven't shown Digby, the biggest dog in the World for ages.
I suppose there'll be some animated nonsense. Then Walford Angst followed by Midwives :emoticon-0113-sleep
By then I'll either be driving home or fast asleep (though hopefully not at the same time)...

MTV is to stop broadcasting music videos at midnight tonight in Europe, ending 40 years of music broadcasting.

A story about MTV in the early days that I haven't seen on any of the nostalgic news clips about it, relates to a 1983 single by Herbie Hancock that many people may remember, called Rockit.
Hancock created one of the most innovative early music videos to go with his single, in which the artist himself appeared only for a few brief seconds occasionally on a TV screen. The reason he did that?
Because MTV would not show black artists on their channel at the time.

In the UK black artists have been appearing on TV (on Top of the Pops as well as other programmes I expect) since the early 1960s.
Possibly further back than that.

The Mark Knopfler song Monèy for Nothing was written after he earwigged on 2 deliverymen talking about MTV. He wrote down the words and set them to music, which became a smash hit.

BBC demands tighter vetting after Apprentice candidate's offensive social media posts

Oh dear. Sorry Auntie Beeb, but you can't have the smooth without the rough.

I'm not a regular watcher, but one of the things I like about this programme is that it shows up ambitious, cocky young go-getters who think they're far more clever than they really are.
I've nothing against entrepreneurs, they have a valuable role to play in modern society. But neither do I admire the attitude that many of these TV ones have. You don't have to be obnoxious or insufferably arrogant to start your own business or get on in life. Neither do you have to impress Alan Sugar or Karren Brady.

The kind of people who'll sign up for The Apprentice are - by definition - more likely to be the kind of people who post offensive messages on social media. By all means expose their online bigotry and intolerance, whatever form it takes.
But don't try to ban them from the show. That is a kind of cancelling.

Either that, or sell The Apprentice to a commercial TV channel where nobody minds when you say something stupid on X or Instagram.

Agreed, also anyone would think they're hand picked to create tensions against each other. :emoticon-0138-think

Poor old Brooklyn Beckham.

Like other kids born into wealth & privilege ('Spare' Harry for example) I don't have much sympathy, except to acknowledge that they did not ask to be born into their families or circumstances.

However, with the exception of Harry maybe, it must be possible for celebrity kids to remove themselves from the limelight if they really want to.
Use their resources to become anonymous and earn a living like the rest of us.

He’s married to the daughter of a billionaire- don’t think he has to worry about earning a living :emoticon-0138-think

Airing dirty family laundry on social media is extremely unedifying in my view.
But if Brooklyn believes he and his wife are being attacked constantly by his own parents using their huge social media presence, I guess he feels he has little choice but to respond in kind.

Regardless of who you are, being demeaned & put down by messages that you know millions of people will read, and most will believe, must be extremely hurtful. Virtually impossible to keep your response a private matter.
