As much as i want the plod walking around everywhere I'm not sure there are enough plod to be going around all the time everywhere.

Nonsense.

You deploy the plod where they are likely to be needed most, as and when they are needed. They are public servants (although in this country they are rapidly careening into government loyalist law enforcement bollocks similar to a police state).

The situation as described by officials was that there were 2-3 officers immediately on site, and a further 20 on patrol 'in the vicinity'. Those numbers are the wrong way around. Any incident happening elsewhere in the Bay area could be reached very easily by the 20 on patrol. The difference is those other incidents were likelier to be petty crime than a mass shooting.

This stems from the atrocious lack of care shown by the Australian govt to its Jewish citizens. It's as simple as that. The community there were warning about this for months. Albanese couldn't give a toss and it is both telling and damning that neither he or any senior minister attended the funerals of those murdered.

Chris Minns, who is basically the PM of New South Wales, admitted as such.

He first said two cops were there, then revised that figure to three. Woopdeedoo.

Then said there were a further twenty "in the vicinity", which is meaningless as the "vicinity" could be anywhere within a short car drive away, which is great if someone loses a purse. Less great if you're being massacred by two fanatics with multiple weapons and loads of ammo.

Well make your mind up, how many were there? <whistle>

well if you are honestly looking at statistics - mass shootings in australia has probably never happened whilst robberies and petty crime is probably far more likely to happen.

because this 1 in a million swan event happened you can't go all hindsight about this. Are people now expecting there to be 3 policeman posted at every synagogue? It's sad that it's happened but the only way to prevent all this is police state and intelligence, not having cops everywhere (whom presumably we give firearms to?).

CK seem to stress 7 mins wasn't acceptable, but it's 7 mins in the UK for an ambulance to arrive to you in a life threatening situation, that's not acceptable either but that's life, you can't account for every eventuality, and that ambulance delay in the UK is more likely to kill you, than the chances of a random lunatic with a gun.

I agree there should have been more cops on duty, but would it have prevented the events that unfolded in Sydney, bear in mind they had the advantage point of a bridge, and I very much doubt anyone would have thought of putting a cop on there.

The only way you cover this **** is with private security, but are the event organisers happy to charge their visitors the additional cost and even then would they be allowed to carry guns, doubt it.

We should also remember the hero of the day who got shot, wasn't even a Jew, these guys had no idea what the religion was of the people they were shooting, nor did they really care by the random way in which they were using their weapons - firing at anything that looked like it moved.

I think you should give this a read and get back to me about your one in a million event.

You are looking at this in splendid isolation as if it occured completely at random and without any warning. Seen in the context of two years of escalation, a mass shooting was basically the next logical step.

Not sure a few more regular coppers nearby would have achieved much and there would have been some form of other security as there always is for Jewish events but not much use against a couple of inbreds with rifles. Seven minutes to get armed response there is probably a bit on the high side given the location but not ridiculously high. Think it was four minutes in Manchester.

Whether there were errors or incompetence in the weeks building up to it is another question.

CK do you not think that bombing Gaza into oblivion was not going to come with consequences. You will never eradicate the hatred, the reality of life sadly.

If not today, tomorrow, if not tomorrow the day after, the week after, the month after, in a years time, someone will always be hell bent on revenge for things of the past.

Humanity is in the gutter. In fact humanity is at it's lowest ebb in my lifetime.

I agree, certainly a more rational response. Yes, there will be seen to have been incompetence, because Sydney made the Met police look savvy.

Your first sentence is horrifying.

First time you've ever sounded like Ponkie.

Congrats.

I'm a realist mate. It don't matter what my views are, life will deal with us in it's own way, the way fate chooses and as such life has consequences. If I killed your sibling you would never forget it and may like some do, choose to revenge it. Terrorism is fundamentally motivated by a past action.
