I think there should always be a quality DM in a squad being built for quality purposes
The main issue with the squad is the transition through midfield, and the lack of any CM who can control or pass the ball effectively is why Frank's system isn't working

Casting Bentancur in the Norgaard role certainly isn't helping

Ideally you have 2 quality players for each position. Sometimes I think some Spurs fans are complacent and think improvement in personnel isn’t needed when most of the time there is always better players that could be signed

There’s a few players out there I’ve seen so called lesser teams/clubs sign and wonder why we didn’t get that player considering our top 6 status.

Or there are players if we are a serious club we could sign based on the food chain but we don’t go for it

Wharton is a good example

Not saying he would come or it’s possible to get him but he would be a great signing for me as he ticks every box. Young but experienced in the league and has shown his quality. Would much rather the club went for him than spend big on another foreign flop

We won't sign Wharton. We missed the opportunity when he went to Palace.
I'd be a little worried about his injury record and our club's tendency to kill players, anyway.

We need to be looking for the next Wharton, who can complement Gray and/or Bergvall.
Palhinha's already a good option there, if we can bring in someone to control the tempo.
We need a Modric/Carrick/Pirlo or whatever.

Ruben Neves is supposedly on the way out of Saudi in one of the next two windows.
Already knows the league, has played alongside Palhinha and could be available on a Bosman.

I'd take Pirlo now! And he's had his feet up in his vineyards for a few years!! <laugh>

One place where Frank has shot himself in the foot is his communication

It's pretty obvious the reason the Bentancur/Palhinha pivot was the default is because between the two of them they replicate the Norgaard role in his system, and he needed to be firm with the higher-ups this is why he was persisting with that pairing. Instead he got pressed into breaking his system by moving parts around

...anyway, other options that aren't Wharton:
- Angelo Stiller of Stuttgart is the Reddit favourite, and is contracted until 2028
- Nicolas Raskin of Rangers did come up back in October, and with Rangers needing cash a £25m bid might be enough to get him in January
- Victor Froholdt would have been an option in the summer...but he joined Porto, so would cost a ****ing fortune now
- The perpetually-linked Ederson is another, though at this point Atalanta are probably bored of trying to sell him

Ruben Neves would be a smart signing. If his contract is up in the summer then surely he would be available quite cheap. And if he wants to come back to England then he will take the pay cut.

Yves Bissouma has claimed the reason he was caught huffing hippie crack was because he's suffering trauma for the time he was held at gunpoint when his house was broken into

This would hold more weight if he hadn't also been caught huffing hippie crack in 2023, as his house was broken into in 2024

Bissouma is full of ****.

Should be the first one sold followed by Richarlison and Vicario

Ugh, the r/coys hivemind are thinking that signing a new keeper will fix everything

It won't: not only does our midfield being unable to create or control games mean that our line is 10-20 yards deeper than it should be, but the reason we seem to be on the receiving end of more worldies than usual is because opponents have figured out that Frank is leaving Zone 14 empty as that is where low xG chances come from...but if opponents keep exploiting that area than the law of averages makes low xG into a goal due to having the time and space to aim better

It's similar to how Paul Robinson seemed to concede from 20-25 yards on the reg under Jol when the midfield pivot was Zokora & Jeas, as they left a similar area free...not for tactical reasons, merely because neither wanted to defend

And what is Zone 14, I hear you ask? Well, here's a helpful chart

Now imagine we had a pivot that could break up lay in that area, would Vicario (or any other keeper) be getting beaten in his top corner so often?

New keeper won’t fix everything but it would be a step in the right direction.

This squad needs 4-5 new starters really. Big job for Spurs in the next few windows (when isn’t it)

Bentancur is the player where an upgrade is needed, given he's not defensively savvy enough to perform in the Norgaard role as a 6 yet not front-footed enough to perform as an 8

He's basically turning into Bentaleb in the current system

First real window coming up where we can’t blame Levy

January is never easy for transfers

I expect to get a feel of how we are thinking as a club at the very least

yeah new cm as well as keeper needed in January. Hopefully a new striker too but unlikely to get 3 big deals done in January

Goalkeeper has leapt to the top of the list, but where you get a first choice keeper from in January I am not sure. Then left sided players Udogie cant stay fit and Son wasn't replaced. As for CM - Paulinha and Bergvall with cover from Bentancur, Gray and Sarr should be enough for the 2nd half of the season, though a January loan for Archie wouldn't be the worst move if we can find somewhere where he will get regular game time at the right level.

LW still biggest issue for me, it’s a black hole and it also results in teams doubling up on Kudus which then makes his game harder as he’s not at the level of a Kane or Son where he can always handle being doubled up on.

Semenyo on that left flank probably makes this team 50% better instantly. Let alone any further upgrades.

I’ll have his back til I die!

All seriousness I do truly think Semenyo massively changes our dynamic, we’d have one of the best wing duos in the league with him and Kudus, Frank would then have no choice but to go more out attack and I’d like to think that would alleviate the constant need to defend and therefore less chance of defensive **** ups.
