Thats not how it works. Thats like saying Scotland and England have never been the same country.
Ukrainians and Russians are the same Slavic people, have shared a common ancestry and statehood for most of the last 800 years or so, but borders have been redrawn several times during various conflicts.

The UK is not a "country".
Although the United Kingdom is a "unitary sovereign state", it contains three distinct legal jurisdictions in Scotland, England and Wales, and Northern Ireland, each retaining its own legal system even after joining the UK. It's a Unitary State made up of 4 individual countries.

I've heard that mentioned before. The Soviet Union wasn't really Marxist and just happened to murder 20million or so of its own people, same as China wasn't really Communist yet Mao managed to kill around 60million and Cambodia didn't really do Communism properly and murdered anyone with glasses. Anywhere between 80,000,000 and 100,000,000 people have died as a direct result of Communism and let us not forget they are still trying to do their best with it in North Korea so maybe they will get it "right".
