These two islands didn't.

Scotland did.

Whilst the Scottish enlightenment led to industrial revolution and pretty much every significant invention that led to what we now call the modern world the Irish were eating muck, shagging donkeys and blaming the English for letting their population be decimated by the lack of potatoes whilst the English grew rich on Scotland's coatails, sponged of our inovation and managed to fùck up the largest empire in history that we gave them.

Ironically both the Irish and the English are still doing the same 150 years later.

That after a stonewall peno denied for United by all accounts. Still wont make a difference as they're garbage but it's funny all the same.
