This is what everyone’s expecting but AJ has to knock him out for either to move on, the only way either of them comes out of this with any sort of credibility is if Jake Paul gets knocked out. Even if it’s a genuine fight and Jake Paul by some miracle manages to just defend himself to last 8 rounds nobody is going to believe it’s authentic. Lose lose for Paul especially. He has to get brutally KTFO or it will remove any sort of question marks over whether his fights have any authenticity to them again. He’s jumped in two footed here.
People still have question marks? The fight against Tyson was as fake as you can get, it wasn’t even remotely convincing. His early fights were genuine, but after the loss to Tommy Fury, who is a below average pro, he gave up on the idea of being a proper boxer and is just cashing in. It’s win win for Paul, either he makes a ton of money or he makes a ton of money.
I would imagine probably 70% of the people watching want to see Jake Paul get knocked out. So if he doesn’t get ko by aj, nobody is going to bother again with his next stupid fight. I reckon he’s built a rod for his own back. The other side to this is AJ is substantially richer than Jake Paul, so I don’t see what incentive there is for him to throw the fight for a relative pittance.
The incentive is approx. £70m for a 24min fight ( if it goes the distance ). Which lets be fair if he wants he could have it done in round 1. That's compared to his previous biggest purse of about $60/£45m against Ruiz in the rematch. He'd be stupid not to take it. It's an absolute circus but I don't blame either one of them for taking it. Part of me really hopes it's scripted to some extent Purley for the safety of JP but the other part of me really hopes AJ does what he did to Ngannou so we never see JP in boxing again.
Yeah there’s money involved in the fight itself but why would AJ purposefully give Jake Paul an easy time, it’s not like JP has billions to pay him off. AJ is the bigger ticket here it’s not surely not going to be all done on Paul’s terms. AJ brutally knocking the **** out of Paul is going to be the big money show. Particularly in terms of potential future earnings. The fight v Fury would have been worth more, that never happened.
AJ has accepted JP's terms though. 8 rounds, weight limit etc. from the people I've spoken to, they see it as a low risk tune up for £70m as opposed to fighting tonight in Saudi as the "surprise fight" for approx £4m like he was supposed to. The AJ fury fight will happen next year imo. The Saudi team have basically offered them a blank cheque each to do it and it's looking like £150m each. Side note, I've been fortunate to meet AJ twice via people I know, once at matchroom HQ during a meeting and once in Sheffield when he trained there and Jesus he's a monster. I wouldn't want to be getting hit by him for any amount of money. So respect to JP from side that of things and TBF any boxer who gets in the ring at any level.
AJ can increase his net worth by 50% in less than 30 mins, why would he not do it? Its glorified sparring session, I’d be amazed if there was a knock out, both blokes know it’s dangerous and potentially lethal for Paul to take a proper hit from AJ.
Eddie Hearn stuck his neck out and promised it’s a genuine professional fight with no silly arrangements, and said he and Joshua will both retire if he loses. Let’s hope so.
No more dangerous than for anyone. He might not be pro level but he has been dedicated with the best coaches, the best nutritionists, the best supplements and steroids etc. Hard to gauge what level he’s actually at due to the nature of his fights but it’s not like he’s a total amateur.
The weight limit and 8 rounds are hardly out there, if it’s a proper fight it probably wont even last one round anyway.
Ye, you write that in sensible mode on a Sunday afternoon, but I've got decked by a Russian bouncer for arguing over trying to walk into a nightclub with a lit cigarette, so I'd realistically happily get knocked out by Anthony Joshua for $30 million and then buy him dinner afterwards.
Paul was physically held up by the other boxer when one of his previous opponents caught him with a not huge shot. If he hadn't, Paul would have gone down, possibly for the count, and the opponent would have likely hit a financial penalty. It's simply not boxing. EDIT, that was the other brother now I think about it, but I reckon the point still stands, unlike either of them would in a straight boxing contest.
You say that but I believe there was a city fan or someone in the family of a city fan who got hit by just one punch and it ruined their lives. Spent a long time in a wheelchair and recently died I think.
A weight limit for a heavyweight fight is definitely "out there". But he's accepted it and he will have to drop a pretty decent amount in a relatively short space of time, which with someone with a single didget body fat percentage won't be easy
Jake Paul has some absolute mega testicles to be honest and I for one respect him. He’s a big lad puts in a lot of work and has obviously taken it seriously enough to take a scrap with AJ, Wardley was on white collars not so long ago so I don’t understand the refusal to grasp the man can probably box a bit, all the time and money in the world to hire the best trainers plus physicality, natural athletic ability and a wrestling back ground suggests he’d be able to hang with lower ranked boxers. Some of the tin cans they scrap in boxing from the eastern block or otherwise are ****ing embarrassing.
He tried with a lower ranked boxer and lost. After the circus with AJ is over then ( if he wants proper respect in boxing ) he needs to fight his way up through the ranks in cruiserweight like everyone else does, fight actual boxers of his age/weight and show us what he can or can't do.
