First half was about even, second half we were second best especially when they brought their subs on, we just haven't the depth at the minute to maintain things, the first goal was p1ss poor from Hughes, he sees the cross good and early and completely misjudged it, second goal the usual keystone cops moment, 100% onside im afraid, we haven't the depth in the squad with all the injuries to maintain a promotion push, but when the big guns come back we'll scare a few and be comfortably safe. Ipswich squad told on the night.
Realistically, I don’t see us winning the next two, we’ll drop to mid-table where I think we’ll stay for the rest of the season.

Agree. Amir was having a poor game with the ball but at least he was keeping his shape and discipline Infront of the defence.
Other than one occasion with Greaves he pressed fresh air... and lets not think about the chance. he's a one in 20 striker and that one will have certain people creaming themselves..

It's like some kind of mythical groupthink this pressing.
He can press all he wants, but whenever he needs to either shoot or link play he messes it up. We can't afford to carry that up front.

To be fair he's come on twice now with the team down in the dumps and not doing much. Felt like with Millar we were in the ascendancy a few times and he joined in.

Millar came on when we were 2-0 down to Preston and helped with both goals. That's a whopper.
Yeah destan sure proved your point when he came on. Two in two doesn't help when you need the team to be organised and contributing off the ball.
In that interim period Belloumi looked fine, got an assist and made a difference. He looks like he needs confidence on his hamstring now, understandably.
Liam came back raring to go and did his hammy too. Let's see how it takes for him to click and get the same confidence back too.
Until that happens it's a bit unfair to compare.
So, Charlie Hughes. Sometimes quite good, sometimes not so good. Not in my view anywhere near a Premier league defender at the moment and I wonder when people might see that maybe he isn't free of blame in our hopeless defensive record this season. There are times he goes in like a bull in a china shop. When it comes off, he gets the 'Hughes' chant, but he quite often misjudges the timing of those interventions. And he is a really average defender on defending crosses. I noticed on Saturday how he was under the ball on a couple of crosses. Same could be said of Portsmouth's second goal although it was a great cross. But tonight was the poorest example yet.
I think he will become a really good defender, but I hope in a gentle way someone is working on his weaknesses. Feels a bit like Hull City's Harry Brook!

If he hasn't had a technical accreditation for one, then he certainly contributed a key pass that to all intents and purposes amounted to one.
Belloumi looked fine when he first came back, over exerted and pulled a string.
Millar has done the same. Let's see how gingerly he starts back the second time with the same physical injury and the same psychological impact.
I'm not saying he will or won't react differently, just that it's not really an apples for apples comparison.
That'll s not to say I think Belloumi is championship proven after a short spell under an overtly gung-ho manager and it'll be interesting to see what he's like with off-ball responsibility. Time will tell on that.

Ipswich probably deserved that tonight - they felt a very professional outfit.
That ref was one of the most frustrating I’ve seen for a while, always looking for a foul in the tussles. Felt for some of our more physical players like Joseph tonight as they couldn’t get away with much.

Disappointed of course, but not that surprised or too downhearted....We need our best players on the park from now on in. Ipswich nothing special, a bit underwhelming, but will no doubt be up there....Ref was $hit, but I wouldn't use him as an excuse for not creating one decent chance in 90 mins.
... and at least we have the budget to look forward to tomorrow to cheer us all up. Err, oh, hang on ...
