It's all kicking off in Consett. Lib Dem councillor has been told she cannot lay the wreath at the Remembrance Service as a Reform councillor from another area is doing it.

I’m a councillor in Durham and I’ve been told today I’m not allowed to lay the wreath in my ward on Sunday at the remembrance service, a reform councillor from a different ward will be laying it in my ward, I can’t lay the official Durham council one I’ve to source my own if I want to lay one.
The council wreath is currently in my possession and wonder will they be wrestling it off me at the service ?
Hide in the crowd and pop out at the last minute to lay it <ok>

Possible tax per mile for EV drivers <laugh><laugh>

These clowns have no shame do they. You do your best, as advised by govt, to help with climate. Oh hang, we will tax you because it is not fair fossil fuel users have to pay more...

I dont drive an EV by the way.

Looking at getting an EV next year through my employer, wonder how that would work. Would it be an added tax to the employer, then passed on to the employee?

If this tax comes in I may just stick to petrol.

Must admit I creased up laughing when I saw that on the news this morning, I thought how gullible anyone believing this Labour government.
They might not do it yet, but I doubt it.
The mileage will probably be taken from the MOT certificate and paid yearly I guess, maybe they have another way though.
A government spokesperson told the BBC: "Fuel duty covers petrol and diesel, but there's no equivalent for electric vehicles. We want a fairer system for all drivers."

What bit about fairer do you not like?

But that already exists to some extent
Charging at home off peak is about 7pence per Kilowatt hour if you charge anywhere else it leaps up to 8 times that or more. So any EV driver who does a lot of miles is already being ripped off for refuelling their vehicle.

, they might look at a way of taxing you when you charge your car at home

Sorry I disagree, Brexit has massively damaged our economy and contributed to record immigration imho. The consensus of experts told us what would happen and they were right and Farage, Hove and Johnson were wrong.

I do agree the last government mismanaged immigration, mainly through the big cuts to border staff and therefore not processing migrants quickly enough which led to the hotel issue. This government has and is recruiting staff to tackle the issue (300+ at the last count i believe) but it’s going to take time to get on top of the issue.

Sadly an opportunist protest politician (who mainly caused the problem) can tell everyone can fix it overnight. Sadly he is the problem
Not the solution.
Well I have quoted facts from the ONS. Easily verifiable.
It has clearly not" massively" damaged the economy. It hasn't made much difference actually, though of course the much mentioned £150bn which is meant to be invested here in the years ahead from US tech companies could not have happened while in the EU.

Not opinion, it's just a fact.

The last government, and this one are not interested in cutting immigration if any kind. The evidence is overwhelming on that . No possible difference can be made while still tied to ancient treaties, written in another century.

Here's another one costing tax payers billions.
A friends son never worked a day in his life mid thirties gets the nod to get a vehicle using the mobility allowance puts five grand down cash and gets a top end 4x4.
And the DWP doesn't look into it.
He is not a raspberry ripple he has been diagnosed with a mental health problem

They'll bring in pay per mile for every vehicle in the end.
They'll start it at 3p per mile and every year it will go up with inflation.
You will have nothing and be happy.

So your friends son is milking the system? What other stories has he corrupted your mind with? I would be wary of this person as a friend. Did this milking happen in the last year and four months under the Labour government? How are you managing to blame Starmer here?

I think whatever this government do there are people on here who are always going to complain.

Is this government perfect? Far from but given the catastrophic last Tory government and the Farage alternative they are the best option by a distance.

I have an EV and petrol cars and happy with both. We use each one accordingly. For the environment and climate and as technology improves it just makes sense to move to electrical.

Which part of him isn’t an aspiring fascist ?
Who does Farage mimic?

Apart from nationalism, you have described the central tenets of communism. You need to go outside of the internet.

As you might know, Mussolini was so devout a follower of Communism that he was praised publicly by Lenin in Pravda and called " the future of the movement". Mussolini was also arrested and deported twice from Switzerland for activity in the name of revolutionary Socialism. He only left the Socialist party in Italy when they insisted that cause came before country.

He was lauded to the heavens almost everywhere until 1935, especially by the left in the US and here as the man " who made Socialism work". He never once recanted his beliefs, and his second in command sang the praises of Socialism as he was executed.

Fascism was a very time specific thing, demonstrably borne of left wing politics, though this is not generally taught.

Now the cry " Fascist!" is used to attack anyone , usually someone they do not like or do not understand.
