Congratulations to Chaz on winning the Wales Sports Personality of the Year, shame he couldn't manage it riding the Triumph though, make no mistake these guys are athletes and they put their lives on the line every race.
Ditto MM, thought there would be a few more between both boards, made a nice change to see this sport recognised as such.
i dont know about people excelling in minority sports, i would have preferred to see someone like bale get the award, he's well on his way to be a world class footballer, a sport played by probably 100000 more people, and therefore 100000 times harder to excell in..
I disagree Swamp. Whether or not its a 'minority sport' is irrelevant imo. Nothing against Bale but you could say the same about Ramsey, Warburton or any other Welshman (person) excelling at their sport. They haven't actually achieved anything. Davies won a world championship, as did Dai Greene. Both nominated on merit and both deserved the nomination. Same goes for Swansea winning Team of the Year. Again, just my opinion but it should be about what you achieve and not just how good you are or how much you do for charity etc
yea, i cant argue if he was voted for by the public, its just my view that certain sports are harder to succeed in than others, football being one of the hardest, but well done to the guy, if he's a world champion thats an achievement no matter what the sport..
Not sure about the total global numbers in motor sports but Superbikes is approx 120 riders from 25 countries. Is that not enough for you?
Hey, if you're not proud of a Welshman becoming a world champion in the sport of his choice then I'm sorry but your opinion counts for feck all
What he said... Plus I'm a biker also (see my avatar = me on track at Portimao on my Fireblade), so very pleased to see him win this award!
World Champion at anything is a huge achievement - it means you are the BEST. That takes some doing and, minority sport (debatable) or not, Chaz Davies deserves his accolade. The great majority of us aspire to achieve what he has done but so few of us do it. He can deservedly hold his head up for the rest of his life and can tell his children and grandchildren, "You know, I was once the best in the world". Wish I could do that.
"25 countries". What a joke. David Greene is a true world champion in a sport where over 200 countries take part. Probably, only athletics and football can be regarded as “world”sports
fair enough, each to their own and we'll agree to disagree The only real joke is the USA's Baseball "World" Series and the Superbowl "World" Champions
A Welshman has become a world champion at a highly competitive sport so well done Chaz you've done yourself and Wales proud. PGF, get back on your chopper, ride it for a few days then take the stabilisers off, then you may get a sense of his achievement albeit at a different level.
H Bomb - agreed taffthefish - I HAVE got a sense of his achievement! Perhaps you need to look at the BIG picture.
If Wales won the Football World Cup would you think it was a greater achievement than Wales winning the Rugby World Cup?
