Fawlty Towers actress Prunella Scales has died aged 93, her family have confirmed.
Scales was best known for playing hotel manager Sybil Fawlty, the long-suffering and domineering wife of Basil - played by John Cleese - in the classic British sitcom.
The actress died "peacefully at home in London yesterday", her sons Samuel and Joseph said.
They added that she was watching Fawlty Towers the day before she died. Cleese paid tribute, describing Scales as "a really wonderful comic actress". He said: "Scene after scene she was absolutely perfect."

A sad day, she was a great actress - Farewell Sybil you will always be remembered
RIP <rose>

RIP
Shows like that were a huge part of my childhood, truly a golden age of television

Baasssiiillll RIP, enjoyed more than a few laughs watching her. Good innings mind.
She did suffer from vascular dementia for the last 12 years but good on her for raising awareness. She and her husband (Timothy West) did a great series (Great Canal Journeys ) about their life together and their struggle with her illness - I'm sure Channel 4 will repeat it.

Watched them all, her hubby who died last year was very good with her, he was a top actor in his own right.
