i was trying to be positive on there about him, as generally they are extremely negative, and I thought he deserved a chance at least.

It’s just way more honest and normal to say “I had some reservations but was hopeful” rather than pretending you didn’t say things, and were some kind of oracle that is so much cleverer than everyone else. Because people can actually read what you did say.
