It's not an excuse if it's factual mate. However, I never claimed we were in transition, just responded to your comment dismissing it.

Imo, we're going through a blip because of various reasons but we'll come good and ****ing smash'em all :emoticon-0165-muscl

But thats a bad theory as proven by mam utd's squad and by plauers like konate who simply are not nor never will be a leader.

    You can list them out.

Trent would have been a terrible captain. Both onto he field and the dressing room.

Nunez? Woeful. You can see his head dropped last year understandably and while he ran aboit and was loved for running aboit leadership wasnt happening.

    Same.for.gomez.

They all.need vvd stood beside them.

They all need someone to put manners on them and keep them in line.

Like, salah would be an awful captain too. He's an ego. Like fernandes and he does have that ego and he does give the good advice but he's never going to be the one handing out fines and never opens his mouth on the field.

People lead in different ways, no one is more dedicated than Salah for example and that sets the example through the week and says ‘wanna get close to what I’ve achieved? Follow suit’

It’s certainly not just about bollocking people

I’m don’t get the discussion really. We are clearly in transition. Even if we’d just bought Isak, we’d still be in transition. He alone changes our style of play. As does Wirtz - the full backs need to learn a new system and new patterns of play with new team mates. Everyone does.

this is not defeatist. It is not capitulation or excuse making….it is just what it is.

PSG took a few weeks to click last year but when they did, we all knew about it.

    just chill :emoticon-0103-cool:

Yeah but discipline is a key element.

Look at utd. Fernandes as captain is a disaster zone.

Nobody is setting standards daily but he's apparently inspirational.

Under Klopp we had a leader in defence in Virgil, a leader in midfield in Henderson and for a leader in the forwards in Firmino/ Salah.

at the moment our only leader is Vigil in defence.

We saw the lack of leadership in midfield against Chelsea.

I would hope macallister is a leader for us but he is not fit, not at all.

Gravenberch is a young player developing.

Szoboszlai is a hard runner and given leadership responsibility by his country but what doesn't help him is played 3 or 4 positions a game.

We had wijnaldum and henderson in midfield
Fabinho was a quiet lad who got about his own work

Firmino was a worker and unselfish. You could never say mane or salah were leaders. They were there because firmino sacrificed himself A lot of the time.

What we are doing now is asking salah to sacrifice himself stading wide but not running back defending so not sure thst works for me.

How we get a tune out of Ekitike and isak is key here.

Really? We had the same midfield last season and I think it had leadership. Against Chelsea, I think we saw a lack of midfielders against a very strong Chelsea midfield. Leaders lose too, especially if tactics or circumstance works against us.

I do think that Salah is struggling. Perhaps his age has tipped him, perhaps it’s the balance of the team…..I don’t get to see his match data…..I also think that we miss Diaz, who’s was a machine. We also miss Jota, who was a game changer and Nunez who was a nuisance. We are a completely different team and will have to learn a completely different set up. But we have quality and it will come.

I agree with this, I think people are saying it's very dangerous calling it a transitional 'season' - as that may relax attitudes on what is achievable this year.

Of course with all the change we are in transition - so lets just get on with it :)

Well our role in all this is to watch and discuss. Its up to the club and manager to not call it transitional.

If slot says that once he is running up the white flag.

If we **** the league then go for the cups. Keep improving and deliver something.

Lfc can never accept 4th again. It was accepted in the 2000s but the klopp era reset our collective belief.

    Lfc go for the win.

If that's a league cup, fa cup or cl run or we can stay in the league fight then thats what we do.

I'm not sure what your point is in response to what I said. I've not claimed that everyone is a leader. I haven't even said who I see the leaders as being.

The theory is actually - if everybody is good then nobody is good because if all are good then there's no opposite to compare them to. You only know that someone/something is good if you have a comparison. That seems pretty self evident.

You've hit the nail on the head here. It shouldn't be a transitional season but the team is definitely in transition. As said above, it's not defeatist or capitulation to say so.

Very often we're saying the same thing we just miss it because we express it differently. I think this is one of them.

Its just a different slant and emphasis.

My emphasis is on the senior players playing a very real role in the management of the team as well as leading on the pitch.

Jimmy used to hammer Henderson and milner but while we could have done with better players theres a very slippery slope you can end up on like utd have ended up with a squad or players and young players who just dont want to work as hard as others.

I think Ekitike has the right attitude. And the only problem Kerkez has had so far is that he sometimes tries too hard. Frimpong looks like he'd run through a brick wall, and it's far, far too early to judge Isak yet - but he did risk everything on making a move to us, knowing that Newcastle would have preferred to offer him a huge contract or sell him to a foreign club where he'd be on humungous wages. I don't foresee an attitude problem there.

In fact, I look at Ibou and I see someone with his head up his arse, bar one or two games. I see Macca, and i sense the rumours about his private life could be more than just that. He looks like his mind may be elsewhere. I look at Cody and see a player struggling to adapt to the fact that three of our six main attackers from last season are no longer there. And I look at Mo and see an emotional man being overcome by emotion both on and off the pitch. For a man who was beaming more than any in May, I don't think I've seen him smile once since July. No excuses, but he seems to have taken the Jota tragedy worse than Robbo and Kelleher, Jota's two best mates at the club, supposedly.

In short, I see the mentality of the established players suffering more than the newcomers: newcomers who could do with a bit more mentoring and guidance, in truth.

Good post. I think the new lads probably all have the right attitude. It's something, as a club, we look to get right. It's the collective mentality / mindset that doesn't come immediately but improves with time. I've no doubt it will all click into place, sooner rather than later would be my choice. :)

The season could have started one of two ways - good performances with results catching up later or good results with performances catching up later. We're currently in the natural dip that separates the two.
