Managed to clear the junk from about a third of the garage and built a rowing machine today. It's a start! I'm on meds that require a weight and blood pressure check every six months and I keep getting told off that my BMI is too high. I hit a milestone birthday at the beginning of the month. That's kickstarted me into making changes to try and lose some weight as I'm getting old!
I've tried Huel but things like that and especially protein shakes really should be no more than supplementary to proper food, rather than replacements imo
I take daily cod liver oil tablets to aid flexibility in my 62 years. 1st Sept 14st 5lbs, up a lb on last month... fitness going well
Just caught a glimpse of my reflection in the patio door. Time to tone down abit now i think. Ive smashed these last 2 weeks in the gym but its not a good look for me being too big.
My contribution. Swam over 58 lengths of the pool at the aquatic centre in an hour last night, 1450 metres (accidentally paused my fitness watch so missed a few lengths, at least 4). I'm aiming to get to 1600 metres, 64 lengths, by the end of the year
Been out of the gym for coming up to 3 weeks because of sciatica, can’t even get out for a walk, missing it like mad, I feel sluggish and in a constant low mood, I’ve tried stretching even swimming which I hate but nothing eases it. I can see how people quickly get depressed with something like this. Constant pain really drags you down, only good side is my daily basting with deep heat off the wife
Trying a month off the drink and gym 5 times a week, mainly cos someone bet me I couldn’t stay off the drink, difference is mad, lost loads of chub from my face already, week 3 now and best I’ve felt in years
Any tips on getting the first step in ? Don’t mean the first of 10000, I mean first action to get back into excercise habit - it’s more a mental attitude . I know “ just do it “ I know excercise will ultimately make me less tired and more willing to do it - but just can’t get a routine going. I have a treadmill , spin bike , weights , resistance bands in house - but something is putting a barrier up . TIA.
Set yourself a target for fitness and/or weight loss, like Christmas, and get a friend to help/join in if possible 'cos you need someone to 'spur you on' (as will he/she). I wish that I had someone to help me, and the time (to even get started)
I recently had my yearly health check and my cholesterol was up - not much but they said it was worth noting. I was also told to remodel my lifestyle, it's not that I'm eating crap and drinking heavily every day but sitting at a desk most of time will be taking is toll so I decided to decided to get a small treadmill. At the the minute, I'm walking for an hour at a time and trying to do that every day. But that's me. If you've got something holding you back you should try and push through it. You don't have to do everything at once. Try the exercise bike for 10 mins for example. I'm listening to Haway the podcast while I'm walking as they go on for about an hour and it gives me something to take my mind off walking, maybe that's what you need. Listen to a podcast, music, watch TV if it helps
Find something you enjoy so it doesn’t feel like a chore is the best advice I can give or start with a walk round the block/estate, park further away from work than normal so you have to walk anything to get you moving, the main thing for consistency though is you really need to enjoy doing it in my experience anyway
Class mate, I love my swimming and do all front crawl now and feel like I’ve had a better workout. In Spain for 14 nights (Benidorm then Alicante). Looking forward to getting back to the pool to shift the weight I’ll have put on.
Maybe sign up to the gym so you feel like you have to drag yourself there at first? I probably wouldn’t use a home gym half as much because I’d have other distractions. Once I’m at the gym I know it’s my time and what’s going on in my life for those few hours is put on hold, I can just get in the zone.
Gelders - I struggled in the same way but the solution really is trying to get into a routine - personally I (now) get myself onto the cross trainer at home as soon as I come through the door - grab a bottle of water, upstairs, changed and crack on. If I give myself 10 minutes to sit I`m sat for the rest of the night...I don`t pretend I enjoy every session but I do enjoy the "feeling better" at the end of the week...(I hate the bloody stairs afterwards though!) My Mrs pays for a personal trainer at the local gym to make her accountable...it works for her but wouldn`t work for me... Good luck mate
Just been busy with work and stuff mate, try to chip in on the match day threads when I can, all good here though!
