Psv chairman has said pieters is not for sale in Jan. He's still out for another 6 weeks anyway so not much use. It's on skysports but I'm on my phone so can't link it

Flash enough cash and everyone is for sale. If summer reports are to be believed he desperately wants to come too

put this in the rumour thread yesterday

Erik Pieters - no not his greedy agent this time but his club and a injury

Erik Pieters is a name that is fairly familiar to fans of Newcastle United after months and months of him being linked with a switch to St James’ Park.

In fact a deal was very nearly done in the summer although a disagreement between the NUFC and Pieters’ agent seemed to put the skids under any potential transfer and in the end nothing came of it.

It seemed nailed on that we’d be back for the Dutch international at some point as, being brunt, he is exactly the type of player we need, especially given our current defensive injury crisis. He can play at left-back and in the centre of defence which would kill two birds with one stone and address a fairly large weakness in our squad.

However it appears that PSV Eindhoven are not interested in selling the 23-year-old in the upcoming transfer window. PSC Sporting Director, Marcel Brands spoke to Goal.com exclusively and insisted that no players will be leaving the Philips Stadion in January.

“We are not looking to sell any players at all,” explained Brands. “We are in the race for the title. We are in second place with one game in the Eredivisie and one game in the Europa League to go.”

“We want to finish with wins then we have a short winter break. I don’t expect something to happen to our squad.”

Brands was then quizzed about the possibility of a revival of a deal with Newcastle regarding Pieters, to which he replied:

“No, because, first thing, we won’t sell in the winter and, second thing, he is injured. We think he will be fit again in February and we look forward to him playing again for us.”

he's not due back till feb so it's a deffo no go

this guys a more likely target
Newcastle target Taye Taiwo has revealed his desperation at being used so sparingly at AC Milan, heightening rumours he could leave in January.

The defender only joined the Serie A side in the summer from Marseille but he has failed to convince manager Massimiliano Allegri of his capabilities.

Newcastle have been hit by a major defensive crisis with Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini and Danny Guthrie all ruled out through injury and Pardew is keen to strengthen his squad in January.

"I am suffering every day because I don't get to play football. I joined this club in order to play, but I have made only six appearances so far," Taiwo told L'Equipe.

"I don't understand how things work in Italy. Sometimes I even have to watch from the stands, but I really need to play in order to show what I can do.

"It looks like Allegri doesn't have faith in me. It's not like me to just sit back and do nothing in a situation like this."

now whether we just get him till the end of the season on loan and then pick pieters up for free we'll have to wait and see

Taiwos being linked with Arsenal at the moment though with all their fullback injuries, if that's the case I don't think we've much chance.

I reckon the fact pieters is injured makes us a shoe in to go for him. Just the sort of thing we seem to do these days.

more likely we'll get that lad on loan and get him in the summer for free when he's fit.

Well like I said, if reports are to be believed, he was desperate to come in the summer so if we hold out till the summer, we will have a very good chance of getting him. May even sign a pre contract with us as he will be free to talk to clubs from jan if his contract is up at the end of the season.

I don't think we will get anyone on loan. Seems the top brass are dead against loans which is a good thing in my eyes but something where circumstances permit needs looked at. ie, our defensive problem at the minute definately needs addressing.

Taiwo's nigerian though. we could do without another player who misses part of the season every other season (can they not change it to every 4 years ffs)

Meh, plenty more fish in the sea if PSV are going to dig their heels in. Pointless offering stupid money for him if there's bargains to be had elsewhere who are just as good.

I can see us with Taiwo at the end of January, he totally fits the bill - talented player but injured/out of form.

the thing with the summer is his agent held out for bonus payments and ****ed the deal up for being a greedy ****er i'm sure we've moved on to other targets for the exact same reasons in the past so unless he changes his agent i can see the same problem.as for it ending in the summer no idea

don't think he's injured just the AC Milan coach doesn't rate him there's two players in front of him in the Milan team so he's got no chance of a game.Did the current milan coach sign him??? if he did it seems odd

Means nowt we say numerous players arn't for sale and then sell them.

i think they are but it works out worse initially as it will be played two years running then every 4 years after that complicated isn't the word it's to do with not making it clash with the WC

Future

Ahead of the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations several European clubs called for a rethink of the tournament's schedule. As it takes place during the European season, players who are involved miss several matches for their clubs.[9]

In January 2008, FIFA president Sepp Blatter announced that he wanted the tournament to be held in either June or July by 2016, to fit in the international calendar, although this would preclude many countries in central and west Africa from hosting the competition (as these months occur during their wet season).[10]

In May 2010, it was announced that the tournament would be moved to odd-numbered years from 2013. This will mean the tournament will not take place in the same year as the World Cup. It also means there will be two tournaments within twelve months in January 2012[11] (co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea) and January 2013 (hosted by South Africa).[2]

On the 29th January 2011 Morocco won the bid to host the 2015 edition and South Africa won the right to host the 2017 tournament. But due to the 2011 Libyan Civil War, Libya and South Africa traded years with South Africa hosting in 2013 and Libya hosting in 2017
