And Sheff Utd (who got 2 points more than us in the PL) got 92 points the season after. It’s been said before, but the main thing Martin was good at was turning round the mentality of the players early doors in the Champ season. Doesn’t matter how talented the squad is at this level if they play within themselves due to confidence issues. The sooner we get players believing and playing to their ability the sooner we will see better results.
Good shout. I really think Lallana will be a good manager one day but I think it’s too soon this season. Would love him to stay and develop as a coach with us. Has a brilliant football brain.
One thing I have noticed with a couple of comments on here that I don't agree with is, if you go off on one, start 'type-shouting', lose your rag and abuse players and staff and insist they be physically removed/beaten/sacked then it shows you have 'passion' and if you don't then you are a happy clappy. I don't do that - in any aspect of my life, it solves nothing, literally nothing, and makes a lot of people think less of you and take less, or no, notice of you henceforth. I am passionate about this club, my first game was in 1971, I will be buried with a small percentage of fans that actually saw them (at the game as well) win something worthwhile, and I want them to be an entertaining club, that wins the majority of their games. I want this all the time, I'm upset when they don't perform, get relegated and seem to be a joke club. I was quite upset about the result yesterday, ask my wife, mind you to be fair I'm a bit more upset about her secondary cancer. But going off on one, ranting, swearing, demanding everyone and their relatives get sacked in an angry and shouty manner is not me - I'm still passionate about the club. For the record, even though it is only 6 games and I said I would allow them 10 or 12 before really judging them, this is worrying me. I also agree with someone I have on ignore, that sacking Will Still would be pointless for a lot of the previous reasons given, and I also think Sports Republic would get someone in who was not suitable or 'fit properly', it seems to be their way of doing things. I also think the player recruitment has been a bit naff, with a better goalie needed and someone who actually is a target man who scores goals up front. My answer? I don't have one. I'm not a management type in any situation, I have never recruited office staff, let alone pro footballers and my football was Southampton League, Salisbury and District League, Commerical Houses and a tiny bit of Wiltshire and Hampshire League - so I know nothing. So getting angry about players, management and so forth is just me shouting my head off and saying 'look at me'. I have no clue what I am talking about when it comes to running a professional football club.
If Still goes, I think SR will follow suit. They need this appointment to work otherwise it is the end for them .
I would happily let Still go tomorrow if it meant we got rid of SR. Sadly, I don't think it's that easy.
Ankersen and co, sure. But feels silly losing Solak when he's pumped hundreds of millions into the club in 2.5 yrs. He's not the problem.
Solak is the one I have least issue with admittedly, but he's still the head honcho whose been appointing these charlatans. There has to come a time where you start questioning his judgement, and I'm afraid the early signs of the Spors era is leading me to question that.
This. Being unhappy with the start we have made is valid, and so is not wanting to rip everything up and start again after 6 games, and 3 weeks since the window closed. We needed a high player turnover, rebuild, and to develop the playing culture again. A successful season for me this year would be in and around the playoffs whilst developing the young talent we have. If we're seeing the same problems we currently have in November then maybe it would be the time to have a managerial rethink.
Yeah, saying things like “if Still goes then that’s the end for SR too” is stupid. If they don’t want to sell then they won’t.
Has anybody actually said that though? As I don't recall reading anything like that. If you're referring to my post then all I said was that if people are losing their head then I take it to mean that they care but that doesn't equate to me believing that the opposite is true. A simpler way of putting it I guess is that to me some people just always see it as a negative when others are venting but I like to see a positive in it too. And venting is ultimately how I see it in most cases rather than pure rage. I think we have to remember that football brings people together from all walks of lives and backgrounds, and everyone on this forum will relate to some people more than others. I'm quite an emotional/chaotic **** myself so find it easy to relate to people who show similar traits even if I disagree with the actual content of their posts. I agree with most of the rest of your post but disagree with the idea that venting 'solves nothing' as for many people I imagine it's a form of stress relief which is very important imo. Some people relieve stress through drugs and/or alcohol, some may do so through violence, and thousands of other things. Ranting on a football forum is relatively harmless compared to most other options.
Yeah I think November is about right for me too, the end of October is roughly about a third of the season. Obviously though it depends on how we go in the coming weeks, if we turn out similar to yesterday for the next 3 then pressure will undoubtedly be huge going into the international break. I don't think we will though for what it's worth. From my perspective I've changed my view slightly from recently in that I'm more worried about performances than results in the coming weeks. As I said last night my main worry is that I'm not really seeing any evidence of the tactical flexibility which was meant to be a big strong point of Still's. In theory we should be seeing a steady improvement going forward now and that's the main thing I'll be looking out for in the coming weeks, even if that improvement doesn't necessarily lead to the results we're hoping for.
I do not expect much improvement before the end of October. In a worst case scenario and we start to get cut off in a relegation battle, I think the fans will not forgive SR for another poor appointment. Not sure SR have much credit left with supporters and they need to get the Spors and Still appointments to start clicking. I can see SR selling if whatever they seem to change not working as intended. I expect us to get little out of October and cut SR some slack. I think we will start to gel in December and that further changes will be made to the forward line if there is no genuine improvement. In my opinion, I feel Still will come good but not noticeably this season. He will be here in the next campaign unless we are dragged into a relegation battle in which case I think we may change in May. The chopping and changing of managers is only credible if they are a disaster. I do no see Still at the point yet. I can see some of the summer signings being moved on , though. I would be inclined to give Still two seasons but think this will be unpopular with fans.
Yeah someone like that is who I predict end up buying Saints. At least we might drop to the conference or something where we might have a chance of winning the league
Errrr No, they've sacked 4 - Ralph ( who'd run out of ideas and was probably our best manager in recent times ) Nathan jones ( a bit crazy ) and Mister complete Ego Russel Martin and ys I forgot Juric doh! The rest were either interim managers or were released at the end of their contracts so perhaps .....Oh never ****ing mind I give up - read into whatever you want. As always and never ending Just saying - think this forum is becoming somewhere just to bicker at each other
Chill. There's no bickering here unless you make it so. Sacked, released at the end of their contract, whatever, but they've let 6 managers go in 3 years which does kinda go against what you said about them sticking by their managers. Ralph. Sacked. Jones. Sacked. Selles. Released. Martin. Sacked. Juric. Sacked. Rusk. Released. Doesn't imply they stick with managers too long, does it? Its insane the turnover there when you think about it
