Cortese said that the signing would "shock the football world" if the OP was correct. None of these tick that box for me. Yes £2m is a big championship signing but I believe that we'll be spending in the context of the prize itself rather than the division we're currently playing in. That's PL fees and £2m doesn't go far there. I may well be completely wrong, particularly given our historic record transfer fees (and indeed, astute player identification and trading) but I genuinely expect that figure to be broken significantly in January. Cortese has always delivered on his promises to date and doesn't seem the type to use throw away lines at a fans' dinner simply for reaction.
Ever since Saints signed Keegan, nothing regarding transfers to Saints has ever truly shocked me. If Cortese can match that jaw dropping moment, then he truly will have achieved legendary status in a very, very short time. Mind you, he's not far off it now, anyway.
