This is not a defence of Coote before anyone starts but the making of an indecent image charge covers downloading one as well the obvious one .
I think this is why all those involved in the professional game should be vetted. It might not have stopped Cootes, albeit we don't know if he has a criminal past, but the game involves very young chidlren, you wouldn't allow someone to roam about a school or hospital as an employee unless they've been vetted. I seriously don't understand why the same is not applied within the game - so these people at least understand they are being subject to strict vetting in the hope that it deters from any future ideas of criminality as well as identifying any past history of criminality. The standards need to be set from the beginning of their careers and strict enough to ensure it is engrained into their character. Cootes clearly did not respect his profession and the standards that should have been set upon him.

He’ll have been vetted as part of the role coming through the system reffing youth games I’m sure. See how he pleads tomorrow as it’s more than a bit odd.
Never once you’ve failed it.I am looking to get through ref training to help out with the local club(s) at youth level. The local FA cover the cost and I have to have a DBS check. Not sure how frequently this will need to be done/renewed.
