Again, doesn't work - you're bringing in factors that aren't in the question, like relegation and finishing 12th etc, that's obviously not going to happen. The question is winning the FA cup or finishing 4th, not winning the FA cup or having a rubbish league season.
Actually (if you read it properly) the options are: 1. Finish 4th = CL OR 2. Win FA Cup - and finish ANYWHERE outside of CL places. That's 5th - 20th for clarity, so yes, 12th is a possibility. "finishing 12th etc, that's obviously not going to happen" You are assuming that finishing outside top 4 means 5th or 6th instead. See Man U and Spurs last season for clubs who would 'expect' to finish top 6. It 'can' happen, hence the poll.
Could win the cup, finish 5th (outside the top 4) and still qualify for CL as well if the co-efficient ratings went our way - so that's my preference.
It's about revenue and Newcastle being way behind the big 6, so it does make sense. Where Newcastle finish on average for a few years is not the same as actually closing the gap in reality.
Has to be 4th for me. Another trip to wembley would be nice as would another trophy of course. We've waited 70 years for one and thankfully that wait is now over. I think we can all wait another 2-3 years for the next one if it means CL qualification each year. CL revenue (as well as other commerical revenue yet to be realised) will ultimately allow us and help us to compete at that end of the table regularly and start to challenge the top two placed positions. We can only do that with an improved and ever improving squad, as long as that is being taken care of an FA Cup run and hopefully a win in the final will come eventually as a by-product of everything else we need to get better at across the board.....and quickly !
This bit smacks of corruption. Why go so quiet about such a big case? Provide a full explanation of the outcome.
This is standard for the PL. It’s a stipulation in the PL rules that all proceedings are confidential and have to remain that way. Then, in these situations, the PL just cite that the rules require confidentiality and, therefore, cannot comment further. Keep everything behind closed doors.
Like I say, smacks of corruption. Any brown paper envelopes exchanged as part of this 'agreement', I wonder?
Not so much brown bags but expect City's proposed deals to be suddenly approved.more quickly and with less scrutiny on value etc. Yeah, stitch up.
Don’t get me wrong. The poll is one or the other and my thoughts are to progress financially we need CL football. But if I was to take my finance head off I wood say FA cup all day long. It’s just the longer term position I want us to not only compete for the title. I want us to dominate and to do that we need to grow our revenue streams 200-300m and to do that we need commercial growth which comes with CL regular football. I know you understand this hence why you posted what you did. But Charlie maybe isn’t getting my point yet.
They have again acted corruptly because this means Man City have got what they wanted and so have the PL. I suspect a NDA is involved. I said from the start and I maintain still. The rules will continue to keep us where they believe we should be. The only clubs that are really affected here are us Villa and possibly Forrest because we want progression. The rest of the clubs outside the big six are just happy to tick over. It’s completely anti competitive and won’t change unless we bring legal challenge. Which we don’t really have too. We just have to beat them by doing it the right way. Someone else said earlier and I’ve been saying it since the takeover. The only way we can bridge the gap is many many commercial deals. I am hoping this new CEO is the man to push this concept. The standards and levels have been set already so we have parameters we can operate in. PIF and the RB need to box clever here. It doesn’t all have to come through PIF.
No NDA required. It’s all part and parcel of the PL rules. All arbitration proceedings are private and confidential. Plus neither side probably wants to disclose exactly what was agreed.
It’s in the interest of the other 19 PL clubs but ofc you’re quite right. It’s still disgusting though. I feel like there may be some relaxing of the rules or even changes coming. But I also think Man City have been given a free pass here.
If it’s confidential I do wonder what reporting there is to the other 19 ‘owners’ of the PL. The PL can’t refuse to tell the other 19 members/owners of the PL at least something, Shirley?
Not sure. You would assume they would have reasons to know. Maybe the clubs would get to hear the outcome just may be bound by confidentiality?
No one's getting it - it's about winning the FA Cup or finishing 4th THIS SEASON, not about prolonged years of revenue growth. Plus we could finish 5th and qualify for the CL, so 4th place really doesn't even mean that.
Win the FA Cup and finish 5th is a good season. In terms of the Man City APT2 outcome - The PL by allowing City to push through their sponsorship with Etihad has set a precedent. I reckon it's linked to the 115 charges as well as City are accused of inflating sponsorship...
