The majority of asylum applications are from people whose study or work visa has expired :emoticon-0112-wonde

AI Overview

No, it's not accurate that the majority of asylum applications are from people whose study or work visa has expired; while a growing number of asylum claims come from former visa holders, in 2024, approximately one-third of asylum claimants arrived via irregular routes (like small boats), and among those who previously held a visa, the largest category was study visa holders (40% of the visa-holding group), not the majority of all asylum applications.

So under half then

A man of peace ....
He'll do anything for a distraction at the moment, some of the Epstein victims had a press conference yesterday, one of them naming Trump. It's in restricted airapce and yet there as a military fly-over as it was takingplace in the hope of drowning them out.

actual figures

The Immigration System Statistics, year ending December 2024 release shows that of the 108,000 people claiming asylum in 2024, just under a third (35,000) had arrived on a small boat without a permission to enter. Internally matched data shows that slightly more than a third (40,000) had travelled to the UK on a visa.

Not sure about the 33000 but suspect that they are family members who the 75000 applicants add to their claim

Starmer still hasn’t sacked Rayner. Weak ass bastard. Another nail in the coffin of the Labour Party.

Rather amusing seeing all the faux outrage... she's done the decent thing but plenty of others didn't ...

One of the funniest being David Cameron's unfortunate memory lapse when it came to the interest he had been receiving year after year from Swiss bank accounts which had been in his family for decades ...oops

I'm on the fence with it, happy to wait to see what evidence she provides.

If what she has said in an interview is true, she should be able to prove it, and I'm not that confident she is clever enough to know about this ****. That's not saying she didn't try and evade tax, we all do if we ask the question on how to pay less. But not going to hang her just yet, metaphorically speaking.

I'll quote my previous comment on the topic, to try and avoid what I say being associated with other comments on here.

I said I was on the fence with it and I was. After the news today and probably even when the news broke, I felt a bit sorry for her, but when I ask myself why, I come up with two responses, one is she is not the brightest tool in the box, second is she actually wasn't doing a bad job, especially when you put my point one back in the equasion.

I think my first bit of advice for her before going in front of the camera, would have been, when you say you were told x y z, you better have it in writing before even saying that. If you haven't got it in writing you aint got a leg to stand on.

We all do it, how much do they want, is there a perfectly legal way of getting it cheaper, why wouldn't you explore that avenue, it's not criminal, it's commonsense practice, unfortuantely she got led down a rabbit hole, the i's weren't dotted and t's certainly not crossed, but hey **** happens.

MP's have done far worse, and it shouldn't be about them and us, this is why politics becomes all populist, ignore Farage, ignore everyone, and put your hand on your heart and form your own opinion about what happened.

I was disappointed, certainly not delighted when I heard she'd resigned, I really hoped she was going to step forward with something in writing, and prove the doubters wrong...i sort of say with tongue in cheek, if only she'd listened at school...although I don't remember tax avoidance being on my weekly lesson schedule.

All those bastards out there who duck and dive the system and get away with it, poor Angela was just caught like a rabbit in headlights, at least it will make for a good novel for her, and she'll reap far in excess of the £40k, so she's not really the loser here, politics is along with her dream of being PM.
