She's 100% working class. This isn't just keeping up appearances. lol. This is just normal habitual stuff. good on her too. keeping it real, although she does have an upgraded Lilo. She could've just got one of those crocodile ones.

Going back to Rayner, it really irritates me that the only people in politics who ‘look clean’ are rich before going in to the profession. I suspect being an MP is a mega hard job and nowhere near worth the money, so I can see why they are all trying to trim the tax fat. I guess the excuse is: my accountant suggested it and I just agreed, but in public office the first thing you say is: no tax avoidance, everything clean as a whistle. I remember when many MPs were there because they were passionate about an ideology. I guess today the world is too expensive to have that kind of stand.

Anyway, I would be fine with MPs getting twice as much pay if a) they had to use a state paid accountant, b) they were not allowed ANY outside income while in office and c) if anything untoward was discovered it meant immediately losing their jobs.

That would probably remove 90% of MPs…

The trouble with the "not allowed any outside income" is you end up with solely professional politicians.........which is part of the problem anyway and also a lot of those with real world experienced and talent like businessmen people, lawyers, doctors etc. would probably not bother for that income on those hours for what could be a very short term, not guaranteed job.

We need more of these people in politics not less. The problem in politics is not the "outside income" it is what the people in there do while they are in there! i.e. make policy to help mates (or themselves) or cronies or end up just being part of the carousel of buzzword sloganeering. A vast amount of what we see and hear from that place i pure and simple worthless.

PMQs is the biggest waste of time going but the bubble warble on as if it matters at all. It is, and has been for eons, the government's folks standing up to say would the PM agree that we're doing really good stuffs, to which of course he does and any questions presented to the PM are not answered Whoever is PM just fires a question back instead.

So I disagree about the no inside income. We would just end up with people more isolated from the real world than we do now..........or a load of Trumps that sign off their outside interests to someone special ready to pick it up when they exit.

Its just a matter of making sure those people whose talents have been brought into the house "play by the rules" AND by the spirit of the rules. We barely get the former atm and none of the latter.

Difficult to see where she ends and the Lilo begins to be honest.

Fair enough. Certainly no outside income that impacts the politician’s decision making or takes up enough time they can’t do their jobs properly. All politicians’ accounts should be open to scrutiny at all times though.

People shouldn’t be career politicians, as you say, but I would definitely expect other interests to be put on the back burner while working for constituents.

How stuff is made has Hannah Fry returning to delve into the hidden technology behind everyday objects that people take for granted. She begins with the passport, gaining access to a top-secret site. How ironic our post brexshit passports are printed by a French/Dutch firm, now the Thales Group (formerly Gemalto), at their facility in Tczew, Poland, due to a cost-saving contract awarded by the UK Home Office in 2017.

I'll say one thing for Starmer, he certainly knows how to pick the right person for the right job.

They will await the outcome of the ethics committee.

Might be prudent to shift her onto another portfolio if she does survive though....

By the news that is coming out tonight looks like there is no intention of shifting her onto another portfolio. This smells a lot like the top team defending their rear and feeding information to the press. Looks like they want her completely smashed!

I think that the enquiry will reveal that the stamp duty issue will be shoen to have been a clerical error by her accountant aboyt whuch Raynor will have been unaware.

I think after the years of "its one rule for vem and another rule for the rest of uff" she will be "sacked in the morning, you're getting sacked in the morning."

She has been happy for them to use her as a battering ram pushing the "working class single mum done good" angle and she has served her purpose now so they'll throw her under the next red bus. These leaks came from the top, there is no doubt out that!

This may well be so, but if the shoe was on the other foot (ie a Tory), this board would be screaming blue murder.

FWIW I too think it is an oversight, though I also feel that the advice given to her as an MP of putting the family home in a trust for her kid, is just asking for trouble. She should have seen it coming, even though it is perfectly legal.
