Less than two hours to go, Sarge is still ours, Fisher to Toffees for £8m is a rumour, but unbelievably we have not, at this time, signed any player in loan. But conversely we have not released any player on loan either. And Duffy, Slimane, Springett and Barden are still with us.

I'll be honest, whom with £££ and squad places is going to want them? Duffy is 'old' and on decent wages, Springett & Barden have failed to impress out on loan. Slimane probably could do a mid-table job, though in that case why are we trying off-load him :emoticon-0145-shake.

On 32 year old :emoticon-0104-surpr Idah, not only did we pull Celtic's hoops doon, they've done the same to Swansea, £6m, upto £7m? :emoticon-0102-bigsm:emoticon-0102-bigsm

Give him a 1 day contract, and put him on the bench for the Derby. Just for the mind games if not a 90th minute sub

It’s closed, right? So we’ve kept Sargent and McLean?

Massive that we have managed to keep Josh Sargent here!

I think this has been a brilliant window personally!
    • Sargent, Sainz and Nunez were likely to leave - We have kept the best one, I don't care where the others went
    • Goalkeeper issues addressed - Kovacevic, Grimshaw, Moulden brought in
    • Defensive issues addressed - Darling and Medic brought in
    • Signed at least 1 CDM - NCFC fans have been crying out for 1 - Topic and Mattsson brought in, maybe add Wright to that
    • Attacking depth addressed - players that can play up front and deeper - Kvistgaarden and Makama added to Sargent and Crnac
    • Exciting winger brought in - Diallo
    • Experienced player to cover multiple positions - Jeffrey Schlupp

I wasn't able to find McConville and Mahovo on the website.

Further back up players - Moulden, Gibbs, Forsyth, Schwartau, Myles

    Brilliant? Really?
    1) - Our three best players last season and we have lost two of them and I, and thousands of others, hate where Nunez has gone.
    2) - Agree 100%
    3) - Darling looks good but issues addressed? We still leak goals and look vulnerable.
    4) - We have always had the person but they were not effective. Will these two be the answer?
    5) - We have always had options but not quality. How do we know these two will be better or will they struggle like Crnac?
    6) - Hernandez was exciting with no end product. How do we know that Diallo will be any different?
    7) - Ageing jack of all trades but master of none?
I genuinely hope your assumptions turn out to be correct but to me it seems that we have sold 2 of our best 3 players last year when we still struggled and have replaced them with a squad full of cheaper unproven options. Surely it is far too early to describe the window as brilliant.

Agree with all of that and would say that Wright is a definite DM. Mattsson a CM who can also play as a DM. The line-up graphic is excellent and, as Manning has pointed out, won't be rigid but instead can morph into a 3-4-2-1 with Chrisene on the left of a back 3 and Diallo as WB, even during games (WhoScored had our Blackburn lineup as a 3-4-2-1). This creates real problems for the opposition.

I've just seen 1950's response and he's right that we don't know yet just how good the new players are until we're further into the season but I'd say the signs are good so far. We all knew Sainz was going to leave. He scored a lot of goals in the first half of the season then trailed off. I don't agree that Kvistgaarden is a cheaper version just because we got a really good deal. For me he's far more versatile and looks to be developing a good relationship with Sargent. We've also gained Diallo, who can play either WL or WB, adding a new dimension to our play and two assists so far is a good start.

In midfield, Núñez is a loss, but Topić already looks to be the DM that we've all wanted so long and there's also Wright there. We'll have to wait and see what Mattsson will bring but the depth is a bonus considering Núñez's injury record. I'd rather he didn't go to Ipswich, but IMO, the deal is far more important to the future of the club. Schlupp is versatile and adds a different dimension on both sides of the ball - you don't play for Palace in the PL for 7 years without being good.

As for defence, Darling is a brilliant addition and Medić is still adjusting, but both are a big advance on Duffy. Their ability to play in either formation is an advantage and we look better progressing the ball out of defence now.

One of the biggest advances for me is the determination and competitiveness Manning has instilled in the players which I think will grow as the season goes on. So for me it has been a brilliant window without crippling the club's finances.

Two sides to every coin I guess 1950, you are obviously on the other side to me - and that is ok!

I describe the window as brilliant in terms of my own happiness, whether it turns out that way can only be proven at the end of the season. What I would suggest though is that the areas of concern from the end of last season were - Poor goalkeeping and strength of back up, a poor defensive record, lack of a CDM, lack of depth up top. Whether successful or not Knapper has recruited to address these issues, nothing has been missed, the proof will be in the pudding as to how well they have been addressed but for me I see signs for optimism, this team now needs a bit of time to gel.

    1. I think most of us thought it was realistic that all 3 would go - Sainz and Nunez due to their contractual status and neither appeared to want to re-sign. Sargent due to his quality. Sainz undoubtedly had a good season overall - an amazing first half before Christmas followed by what I would call a below par second half to the season. Enough to earn him a good move and us a good profit, he wasn't a team player though and I think that also limited his value to us. Nunez another good player who had his best season for us, certainly goal contribution wise, but missed 20% of it through injury. I understand the hate for where he has gone but i'd rather direct that toward him than the club, he wouldn't sign a deal and we've mugged them on the fee.
    2. Thank you
    3. More in terms of attempted to address the issues by recruiting - agree not so much evidence of the issues being fixed completely, but Darling is certainly a cut above anyone we have had a CB recently.
    4. Have we? The fan base has been complaining that we haven't had a CDM since Skipp
    5. Again last season fans complained that we had no attacking depth
    6. We don't but he has shown some good early signs in my opinion
    7. I can agree, i've not been overly impressed with him so far but he hasn't been brought in to start every week - a decent enough squad player - an improvement on Sorensen.

You could add Marcondes as well and Mundle-Smith. Duffy and Slimane will also add depth of they don't move on.

    Will this do?

    GK: Kovačević 27 Grimshaw 27
    RB: Fisher 21 Stacey 29
    LB: Mahovo 20 Chrisene 21
    CB: Darling 26 McConville 20
    CB: Medić 25 Córdoba 24
    DM: Topić 24 Wright 19
    CM: McLean 33 Mattsson 24
    WR: Crnac 21 Jurásek 22
    AM: Kvistgaarden 23 Schwartau 19
    WL: Diallo 21 Schlupp 32
    ST: Sargent 25 Makama 21

I make the average age of the current starting lineup to be 23.7 years.

Marcondes! I knew I was missing someone, and yes a Mundle-Smith also an option.

I still think both Duffy and Slimane will find an option away from the club before too long.

Im suprised we didn’t loan out more of our youth fringe - Adegboyega, Welch, Springett, Aboh, Jones etc
