We can't afford his wages anyway, so it won't happen.
He'd probably score a hatful for us, as the system plays to his strengths, but I'm not sure that he'd bring out the best in our midfield in the same way that Adebayor has.
His work-rate isn't as high, though his movement and finishing are excellent when he's at the top of his game.

Good question, but probably academic as it's unlikely to happen. However, is he worth the gamble, I'd say no.
I'd rather invest £4/7m and 'average' wages in a back up for Ade. There are bargains out there, we got a couple in Scott and VDV recently. The striker may be in the Championship, or somewhere abroad, but surely there is someone out there who could cover for Ade at a reasonable price, and of course would get games/match time, because if Pav can get pitch time so would his successor (which is what this player would be).

Don't want Torres. I'd take Amauri as a replacement for Pav though. Think an "ageing" striker could be worth while. Besides, there won't be much of a risk as I doubt he'll cost much baring in mind his contract expires in the summer (I think).

If it's not happening for Torres at Chelsea (and that appears to be the case), the Russian playboy will sell him to whichever club comes up with the money.
I've heard all this talk about him being moved to this or that club, but there's been absolutely no indication from any of these clubs that they actually want him and certainly not for £20 million! A lot of these foreign teams are set up to play similar tactics to Chelsea, and they will have seen that Torres looks like a fish out of water in such systems. Why on Earth would they want to take an expensive punt on a player who has already failed in that system?

Yes, his wages might be a problem, but at £20 million he could prove to be a snip, which would leave a generous sum available as a signing-on fee to off-set Chelsea's ridiculous wages. Also, Torres himself will have to make a decision whether he wants to rot in Chelsea's reserves or be a major part of the mighty Spurs juggernaut, thereby reviving his international career.
I'd be more inclined to believe that "Torres to Spurs" would be a more likely outcome than "Tevez to Spurs."

I agree it's stupid journalism but it's just a hypothetical question to get us talking. Besides Chelsea have the kind of funds to shrug off a loss like that and then go onto buy another striker at £50mill should they want.
Torres, like Kaka would be a great coup but we need a striker to replace Pav, not one of the most expensive finishers in the World.

True but we're not a club with infinite funds so I'd rather we spread our money over a few players, like another cb so that Bassong can leave, a left back to compete with Benny, another winger who can compete with Bale and Lennon, etc.
Yeah, i'm with you on that. But i still wouldn't complain at replacing pav with torres. If we got £8m for pav and torres for £20m he's only cost us £12m, and he's younger.
I don't see Torres or Tevez happening, and I agree with YV that buying an affordable replacement for Pav is what we need as cover, and when necessary replacement, for ADe.

Other issues that any major striking signing would bring up are Defoe and the possibility of upsetting Adebayor.
If we signed one of these strikers, then the diminutive striker would want to leave.

Well first off Chelsea thought the exact same thing and it didn't work out for them, if they're willing to let him go.
Secondly it wouldn't just be upsetting Defoe, it may also ruin Adebayor's current good temperament, if he's left out of the side.
If you don't drop him, then you probably have to leave out van der Vaart, which would knock his settled state.
You either risk disrupting the side or damaging the system for a player that may be in an irreparable nosedive of form, who would bust our wage ceiling by a mile and who might look for a move almost instantly if he does recover.
That's if this story is even true.

I'm struggling to think of a single reason why one penny should be spent on Torres.
