The whole Idea of upgrading your squad ready for a new season in the premier league makes obvious sense. The idea is to improve your team as you know already that the team that won promotion wouldn’t stand a cat in hells chance in the premier league. Even though we have made some improvements overall we are worse as an attacking force than we were last season. Right now the only forward brought in of note is Okafor and we are not sure he is better or an upgrade on Solomon yet. We added two free transfers who have dubious injury histories, and yes both may do well and score some goals. However right now the jury is out so the odds are not looking good. Joel Piroe has struggled so far, Dan James has struggled, Aaronson has struggled and that means we will not get the 35 goals they scored last season and will Okofor replace the Solomon 9 goals he got. . I believe we have improved our keeper and our defence but due to two MCL injuries to two of our better midfield players we have to rely on Longstaffe who hasn’t come to the party yet and Gruev who I believe is too lightweight for the premier league. Stach can play has a holding DM or as an AM but the manager must sort the system and drill it. We may be better at the back and tougher to get through (hopefully) but in fairness only Bogle and Stach right now look like quality prem players. I am worried and don’t believe the 49ers have a clue as to running a transfer window, especially when it comes to forwards. Saturday evening needs to see a huge improvement in tactics, selection and play from Leeds because I kid you not the tv and radio pundits and the sports journalists already have pieces written about how Farke cannot compete in the premier league. Farke isn’t stupid he knows he’s under the microscope and the Arsenal performance was always going to be a biggy, but coupled with the Wendies capitulation he’s now on sticky ground. He could always rely on the fact that he wasn’t given financial backing at Norwich, but he’s now had £100m spent so far (Wed 27th Aug) most expensive keeper in Leeds history, a whole new defence and midfield and a new left winger to replace Solomon. We should be able to defend better than we have done over the last 2 seasons and we should be able to compete in the middle. However I fear Okofor may not be as good as Solomon and we dont look anything like the team who got 100 points last season and scored 90 goals. I fear the 49ers have not been great in the transfer market and before too long there will be articles written in the media about what happened and what should have happened. Great to see some players moving out now, which just leaves Gyabi and Meslier to go. Only a couple of days left in this window to surprise us with the marquee signing we were all expecting Sunderland transfer spend so far £143m Burnley transfer spend so far £109m Leeds Utd transfer spend so far £100m
Think the entire transfer window has been a shambles and we’ve not managed to get anywhere near the quality required in
It’s just the amount of time wasted on a few players that never even wanted to come to Leeds, why couldn’t they see that? The number of strikers named by football media in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, France, Spain, Brazil, Columbia and elsewhere, yet none has arrived in Leeds, except two freebies with injury woes. Now that’s a massive gamble. The media not once mentioned Leeds putting in an offer for any of these strikers, all we got was clubs saying they were expecting an offer from Leeds, and journos saying Leeds have made contact, Leeds have spoken to the players agent and got full agreement, Leeds in discussions, Leeds keeping an eye….. it’s all bollox, inept and the so called brilliance of the 49ers May have cooked our goose
Yep. I dont think Farke is good enough to get results with the current squad. I feel for him, I know we have spent but I dont think weve done enough to compete. Red bull are probably waiting in the wings and rubbing their hands At least Leeds. 2 maybe competitive, this whole league feels bent as **** anyway. Sell your soul or be a yo yo club at best, that's the reality these days
We should be debating where do we play Hamer, as hes obviously the next through the door. Back to a 4321 with hamer as the 10? We will be toasted by most teams Hamer in and used when we think we have a shot of winning ? Complete waste of time and money could be spent elsewhere. And Im a hamer fan, this all stinks of bottom of the list desperation
Sorry lads im fuming. Im fuming weve lost out on a 20 year old LOAN that cant get into a brighton side. This is no longer about football. **** the prem, **** underwood and **** the 49rs, **** optics and data driven strategies if they dont pull off a signing that will give us any hope.
I recommend you watch a clip of Simon Jordan venting his spleen on Talk Radio yesterday where he says the PSR thing is bent. He says it’s impossible for a Premier league team to go bust. He says it’s up to owners how much money they want to spend and Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal all blew the back doors off spending years ago. Then when City got new owners they went out and spent to catch them up and this was the crux of the charges made against City. Why are Newcastle disadvantaged when they are rich enough to buy their way to the top echelons but stopped from doing so. He says there are loads of clubs rich enough but are stopped under this system which is rigged and bent. He said before long the yanks will get their wish and have no relegation and the new super league will be formed and clubs selling their own tv rights unless the premier league sort this out…..
With the money we have saved on the free transfers, I would blow £35m and pay Leicester the asking price for Bilal El Khannouss now If Rutter was worth £40m then let's pay the asking price I would much prefer to spend £35m on him and he become our player than the Brighton lad on loan
that’s where he played last season… wilder said it’s his preferred position. truth is he roams all over the place… so whilst I like him as a player… is he going to fit into his job role or ‘do a largie’
Simon Jordan talks alot of sense. Unpopular opinion but I like him Hes still a **** though as im raging today
Don't talk sense mate. Parag said we will spend ever penny. The Mic cut off when he said what was behind the sofa. All jokes aside id welcome Hamer now, because it feels like we aint getting anyone else over the line
So two failed attempts to get buonanotte over the line in the last few seasons, we’re coming back for another piece of the pie (see what I did there) with gus Hamer. when is the bid coming for Ryan Kent?
I remember watching a debate early in the summer about the players needed to keep a team in the premier league. The consensus was that the teams who got relegated didn’t spend enough and most of the new players were championship or championship quality. Can anyone say that the new players we brought in were premier league quality. I will stick my neck out and say Pirri, Bijal, Gudmundson and Stach. Okofor may be, but I could be wrong and none of these could be prem quality, but let’s say they are that means we have bought five championship quality players. How many of our existing team are prem quality, Bogle, Rodon, Tanaka, Ampadu, Gnonto and maybe James. So that means at best we have maybe 11 prem quality players and two of them are out injured for weeks. Sorry folks we are in a worse position than we were the last time in the prem. I could be wrong and all the new signings could be brilliant of course……….
Doc, you keep talking about all these players linked in the media then blame the club for not getting them over the line. 99% of the media links are nothing to do with the club, most of it is agent talk and the rest is bollocks made up to get people to read things. You can't blame the club for not getting a player that a random reporter or twitter user thinks we should get. There are a handful of seemingly concrete players that Leeds missed out on. Diarra went to Sunderland after we had a bid rejected. Paixão went to Marseille. Buononote looks like going elsewhere. They are the ones with a bit of weight behind them. Most, if not all, of the rest have little substance behind them.
So your saying we had a list of 3 , not much of a list is it. There were some credible and serious journos giving info about serious discussions on strikers. Like the Krstovic story when he came out and actually said he was staying in Italy and not going to England. And there were others like that mate
