I went to Newcastle loads in the early sixties when the lads were playing away, never felt any affinity to them it was just a thing loads used to do.
I went too. In the seventies for me, beer before and after. Sometimes we'd give the match a miss, or come out early for more beer!

There was a few of us, and we'd do it occasionally at Roker too

Good post mate. I grew up in Consett in the late 50's and early 60's,and there were any amount who went to Roker one week and St James the other. It seemed like it was supporting North East football which was important, and the same people who had pride in seeing good football from one had the same pride in seeing the same from the other.Of course there was always rivalry when they played each other, but, growing up,I don't remember the sectarianism that seems to exist today.

For that sectarianism we can thank the poisonous John Hall.

If Akturkoglu is going for 22.5m I would hope we could get yilmaz for a similar fee

My dad reckoned that as a lad he used to go to see Sunderland one week and Newcastle the next. Can’t quite get my head round that, I was never going to sit on the fence.

Didn’t see this before I posted. For my Dad
As I once said to cyprus sid I went to every one of their home fairs cup games. No affinity just the chance to see foreign teams and players and it was free entry thanks to my elder brother. Alse went to see them play Tottenham so I could see Jimmy Greaves and Pat Jennings two of my favourite players at the time
is Cyprussyd still about?
