A couple of people said it was, it looked really nice, but the overall consensus on TA was that it was terrible. Food decent? Thanks
It's on the beachfront. Just been into the neighbouring town - Santa Maria, and had a lovely meal at a beachfront restaurant. It seems like a great little town. It reminds me of a place called Playa Del Carmen, in Mexico, before it got too touristy!
We went to Sal (Cape Verde) in the spring. Stayed in a Rui hotel just outside Santa Maria. The hotel was very grand but a bit dated. It was advertised as beach front, but a turtle colony ruled it out of bounds, and it meant a bit of a treck to the far corner of the resort. Add that to a treck to the resort’s restaurants and bar, and Mrs A having limited mobility, we generally just stayed round the pool, which I abhor. There was a dive centre on the beach, which I would have tried though was not allowed as was recovering from an ear op. Food was ok, though I fell foul of a minor dose of food poisoning. Santa Maria was full of character. The market was on a jetty, which had an African/Caribbean feel. Very strong permanent (and not unpleasant) smell of gange and Bob Marley music playing . Fishermen’s wives (I assume) were preparing the fish which were laid out on a rug in front of them. I was put off by a tiny dog (chihuahua size) with an alsatian size dose of dysentery unleashing on the goods, while the stall holder seemed unperturbed, carrying on with her loud and animated conversation with the adjacent stall holder. I couldn’t unforget that sight, which maybe led to my own dose of dysentery? The small town apparently has a really atmospheric music scene on an evening which we didn’t make. Overall not my favourite holiday, but would go back if staying in the town itself, and probably for ten days max (I do struggle to do nothing for any longer, so liver would n’t manage any longer).
I'm guessing it was the 'Riu Cabo Verde'. I just had a look as I thought it was weird (as an ex-travel agent) that it was advertised as beachfront, and it states it to be 'direct beachfront access' which does appear a tad misleading!
Riu Funana. It was next door to Cabo Verde. To be fair, I’ve just looked and it does actually say 300 yards from the beach!
