I've sat in the rear gunners place in a Lancaster, that didn't even have the engine running, so obviously wasn't moving and nobody was firing at us, and it was still an uneasy, uncomfortable experience.

Aye, my mate almost definitely knows this story very well given he's the Militaria expert off Antiques Roadshow, but I knew his Dad well, back in the day, so am passing this on to him in any event.
