I don’t remember about the broken leg but he suffered with his back a lot even at 14-15 and I thought he had to quit for that reason.
Brilliant lad on the field and off it. He Was big mates with Nicky Barnwell whose name is on the city flag. And Carl Carter who was one of the toughest kids I ever met.
Ian’s dad was in the paper a few times for saving people who fell in dock. Got medals for bravery.
Ian worked at Aerospace after leaving City and played for Brid Trinity etc for awhile

Just checked on Ian Davies career stats, He was 17 when he made his debut for City and it was v Halifax and he did score, it was Mike Smith's last game as manager which ties in with the Receivership memory. But he didn't break his leg in that game, he played a few more games that season and suffered a serious knee injury four games into the next season, which finished his professional career. 1980/81, 40 odd years ago.

I worked with Ian Davis at BAe Brough, great bloke, he was in logistics in machine shop for years, as was Ian Mckechnie.
Quite a few RL players as well, Clive Sullivan once brought the RL World Cup in to the factory! John Lydiat, HKR, on the wet fish subject I also worked with Phil Windley who was head coach at FC at one time, he also used to bring wet fish in to the factory to sell. Constant banter between Hull, Rovers and City fans in the hangers in the 80's, Gareth Roberts Dad worked on the next bench to me for a while when Gareth was Captain, Jeff Blades aka Suzy Quatro, Chris Williams, Danny Withers etc what a place to work in those days.

Danny in Texas now. Great lad who I first met at college when he was at BAe.

Was at that Halifax game. HDM had articles headed “If you care be there!”. The crowd was double the previous home game. A lot of people were dragged along to swell the crowd. Only time I ever saw Shaun McN…with his wife.<laugh>

A character, wore a leather jacket with Suzi Quotro on the back in the late 70's, bunkers kop, so nicknamed Suzi at City, big City fan, strangely his Brough nickname was Baghead, I don't even know the origin of this but everyone seemed to have a nickname at Brough, sure he was involved with the TSA? supporters association, at one time, and he was a punk!

He was involved with TSA, away coaches from Chalk Lane Club, always stopping at a CIU club on the way. Many a club put a free spread on for us, happy days indeed. :emoticon-0138-think

A Chalk Lane membership was handy in those days when pubs shut at 3pm and you had difficulty finding a pub which would let you in even though there was only 1 coach of us as you could often find a club which would let you in. One game at Forest one lad declared it his favourite away trip of the season as we had found a club he thought was good and he stayed there all afternoon and never went to the game. Might have kicked off early due to power restrictions stopping floodlights being used during a dispute which meant by the time they chucked them out of the club the game was over.

Guzzler from Goole is the king of buying an away match ticket and not seeing the match, mainly due to not getting in for being blotto. :emoticon-0138-think
