Beautiful. Call him Mr Sunderland, an icon, a legend: a part of the furniture whatever you so wish. Nobody deserves their flowers more than our 13.
Dunno why but really pleased that O'Nien has got a new contact. Another in the mould of Benno and Bally who came from outside the area and just totally got the club and the fans
Chuffed to bits that 09 has signed an extension. He might not start many games but he will give everything and wont let us down
Sure most will think he isn’t good enough for the prem, fair enough maybe he’s not. But I’m delighted with this. Cried out for players who represent us like he has and it should be rewarded. It’ll get tough at times this season and well need him.
Onien deserves this and be set up for life for what he does for our club on and off the pitch on top of being an absolute legend and amazing bloke. I really hope he grows old with us and becomes a coach.
Thinking about 09, if there was 1 player in the squad who rlb could ask to do a man marking job on another player, stick to the task and not get distracted it would be 09. When times get tough, we will need him to rally the troops and the fans
So buzzing for 09, absolutely love the bloke. Will be him set up for life now with Prem money and I couldn’t think of a better bloke for it to happen to.
Think we’re just staggering contract renewals all week to build hype? Rigg tomorrow, then Neil walks out before kick off on Saturday holding aloft the severed head of Alan Shearer.
After signing up, O’Nien said: “This is another huge honour for me. I’ve had the pleasure of being part of a side that has achieved two promotions, and there are so many other memories to recall. I’m so happy to be given the chance to create more by extending my stay. Everyone knows how much pride I hold in representing this Club. Our journey to the Premier League is something that will stay with me for the rest of my life, but the hard work doesn’t stop, and I can’t wait to take on this new challenge. I can’t thank the city and the Club enough for the way they’ve embraced me and my family. This has been our home for many years, and there is no other place in the world that we want to be.” Kristjaan Speakman said: “Luke has been integral to our progress throughout the last four years, both on and off the field. His passion for Sunderland is clear and infectious, and there are many reasons why he is so highly regarded by our supporters and staff, and his team-mates. This contract extension is recognition of his contribution to date, whilst reaffirming our expectations moving forward. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with him and now look forward to building the next stage of our shared journey.”
I normally don't give a flying feck what happens to that lot, and I don't really with this. But it is bloody interesting and very comical. All very badly handled I'd say, even if they force him to stay, which is what they should do, it has all been done in an amateur fashion
Excellent news, his commitment to the cause deserves it but also continuity for the ‘til the enders’. Now for DN, DC and CR.
Some may pick faults and doubt him, but the coaches clearly see him as an asset. Been told all summer there isn't any room for sentimental decisions so have to assume this has been another cold, calculated decision. Maybe hes not as bad as some make out
Not just that either. 10 minutes to go, we're 0-1 up away at a top side, who better to bring on to kill the game with his 'antics'
