I think there's a bigger picture about why people flee their countries in the first place, some of which has to do with our foreign policy and an even bigger picture of inequality of wealth and opportunity across the globe.

All of those things are not overnight fixes and don't address the numbers of people migrating here. I honestly don't know what the answer is in terms of stopping people from making dangerous channel crossings, and the people who say shoot the boats or let em drown don't have a solution either

But migration needs quotas and we absolutely have to manage the numbers coming in.

Imagine the migrants that crossed today, even if only 50 of them are returned it will send a message that you are now playing a lottery, but one where you will not get your money back if you lose, and that could be £thousands.

Yeah you will always get your chancers, and you could be sent back and try again, but will your criminal gang cover you for the monies already paid. Certainly going to be interesting to see how this works out, and even if it fails, it will give us some valuable lessons on the next way forward.

Always have - genuine asylum seekers welcomed ... but would also add that anyone coming to live here permanently should also integrate into our society ... just as we should if moving to a country abroad ...

We have interpreters in benefits offices for the hundreds and thousands of ponces here who don't speak a word of English so that idea is going well.

I agree they shouldn't be in hotels or social housing if they came here illegally, ie on a dinghy. I welcome genuine lawful migrants, who are generally hard working. We need to be utilising all the old barracks as dention centres or something of a similar nature. I'd still give Keir time, he's starting to get the French onside and it all takes time.

I've also noted in some rags that hotels are starting to increase room space, normally at the expense of attached restaurants, draw your own conclusions why that is, yes the hospitality sector is ****ed, but I do feel there's a tad more going on here, in what use to be not overly booked hotels.
