Thought it’d be great to have a space to chat about anything health and fitness related. Whether you’re into lifting, swimming, running, walking the dog or just trying to eat better. Share your wins, ask questions, moan about sore legs, whatever works.

No pressure, just a chill place to keep motivated and swap tips. Let’s help each other to stay on track!

    I'll start ..

Since the end of April I’ve dropped from 17st 1lb to 15st 4lb. No fancy diets. Just a solid calorie deficit and a get it done mindset. If you are trying to lose weight, keep it simple. Eat less than you burn, move your body, and show up daily.

It is not about being perfect, it is about being consistent. Some days will be tough but do it anyway. The progress adds up. Do not wait for motivation. Build discipline. If I can do it, so can you. Start today, track your wins, and keep pushing. Let’s go.

Happy to share or help with anything related.

I feel like right now is the best time to wanna be healthy, the information is out there for everyone, theres that jab to aid weight loss. But its so easy to be a fat **** if your job is simply sitting on your arse.

Walking with the dog is my main form of exercise these days. I aim to do about 60 miles a week ( aiming for 3,000 in a calendar year.)
I love it. Don’t underestimate the benefits both physically and mentally of being out in the fresh air. Being out and about everyday I notice the changes in the seasons so feel more connected with nature.
Each to their own I suppose but it works for me ( and the dog loves it too! )

I only see that jab for people who need medical help. My brother got given it about a year ago after trying every tablet under the sun for 6 years for diabetes. Since then, he has perfect bloods. So they work, but for now it's hard graft for most of us. Until the NHS work out what's needed to roll it out to the general population.

Great idea mate. I'm in my 70's now and have always been very fit and active, but,in this last year or so have beefed up around the waist line, which I know is down to lack of exercise and too much beer.....the latter causing more of an intake of rubbish food. For the first time in my life,I've struggled to get motivated to walk/exercise more and to drink less. Still, hoping to get at it before the summer ends.

I’ve lost 2.5 stone since July last year - been on the carnivore diet which worked amazing for me. I had joined the JD gym in Washington as well but difficult to get on the machines at peak times and was sick of all the posers that get in there. I got one of the Gymproluxe sets but ashamed to say I haven’t started using it yet! Really pleased with my weight loss though - to put it into context I had to get an XL home and away shirt last year and this year (haven’t got them yet) but I should fit into a small this year

I decided to join a DL gym with my family, but could only really get into swimming etc. found it hard around working life and 2 kids but last year got invited into a 5 a side group pretty much all strangers just stick your name down and play first come first serve and then it became adding eachothers mates in etc - age ranges from about 30ish to 62

Been playing about a year and I have felt so much better health wise and also mental health having that midweek thing to look forward to rather than waiting for the weekend

Although I do get a lot more injuries than I did in my teens

Me too! I live in Ferndown.

I walk the dogs twice a day and exercise on my indoor bike for an hour every day.
I eat healthy, don't drink and avoid sugary treats.

All of this helps with the Parkinson's Disease :)

I’m out with the dog 7am every morning, not only physical health but just a great way to clear mind and reflect.

Used to be bang into fitness but now in 40’s walking the dog and one session of cardio and machines in the gym a week is more than enough and bar the age related back and joint pains I’m sound.

Diet is key to everything. If you eat wrong any exercise you do will only paper over cracks.

Excellent thread and one that will run and run, if you excuse the pun!

It's good to see a new enthusiasm running through the club and anything that latches onto that can only be a good thing.

As the club is showing momentum is contagious and, mixed with a little expertise, can work wonders.

    <laugh>

BTW, I signed up for a full body organ donor last month, they can now have anything they like except my signed Monty photo <laugh>

It's a good scheme and, like unused SCs, a shame if they go unused.

Some gyms are better than others. I’d try a functional fitness type gym. Less posers, no mirrors and usually a great sense of community. I’m nearly 60, decades since me CrossFit classes and some lifting. Probably pretty fit for my age but my gym caters for everyone.
Best advice though - do something that makes you happy.

Well done mate that’s great progress. As you say consistency is key.

Developed an obsession with the gym myself last April. Had a bad injury to my left ankle that I’m currently waiting on my first lot of surgery for so I’m quite limited in what I can do for cardio, no chance of running etc and I can’t really train my legs too much which is a killer but didn’t want to let it put me off too much. Train 6 days a week normally head down about 6:30/7pm do some cardio, lift weights then have a sauna and chill out. Head home about 9:30-10pm and have some bait before bed.

When I started I had AFLD (Alcoholic fatty liver disease) and had been drinking lager pretty much every night for as long as I can remember back 4 years. Was 96kg when I started, now around 80kg and 8% body fat after my latest ridiculous diet for a holiday but I’m ready to start enjoying my bait again now :emoticon-0102-bigsm But best of all just had my bloods done last week and they done a liver function test, every marker was bang on in the healthy range. Don’t get me wrong I still love a pint especially when it’s sunny outside, I’ll even go to the gym have a sauna etc then come out at 8:30/9pm and have a pint before going home sometimes. All in moderation though. Diet is bland and boring 90% of the time but that allows the takeaways, the beer etc to be consumed guilt free.

The biggest thing for me is that my headspace is good when I train. Dealing with stress from work, home life, other factors etc all disappears once I’m in the gym and it’s my time for me. Can’t recommend it enough if anyone’s on the fence.

Class that mate. If I was single or didn't have kids those evenings sound perfect. Literally no chance now like. So it's the 05.00am grind before anyone is up. Smash feck out of a heavy back and some body weight training. Then everyone gets up haha
