Bit unfair - the fact remains his GS record for the past few Seasons has been outrageous. It's a weaker league sure - but you can only score where you play. People keep bringing up Nunes but what about... Ronaldo, Deco, Fernandes, Ruben Dias, Carvalho, Jota, Nani, Bernardo Silva etc.. Loads of players have come from Portugal and been successful in the EPL. Even ****ing Merino scored goals for us as a CF. Gyokeres scored as many goals last Season as Barry has in his whole career. He's 6'3 built like a tank and he's quick. Obviously good enough to keep Isak out on the left for his National team as well.
He's a risk - it's true he's never done it at the top domestic level, but on balance a risk worth taking. He might be great. Keep in mind the Portuguese league outside the top 4 clubs is truly awful. The standard is no better than League One.
If he can score 50% of what he does at Sporting that's still 30 Goals a Season. (all comps he hit 63 and 11 assist last term) 6 + 1 assist in 8 UCL games. Plus 10 in 7 for Sweden. Ive got a feeling he could do an Ian Wright for us.
You could be right. But CL scoring was a lot of penalties and Sweden he was scoring mainly against smaller teams - a load against Azerbaijan. If he can get 20 in the PL that would be a good season for him.
£55m is great business for Gyokeres Spurs paid that for Kudus We'll have to see how it all pans out of course, but he is what we've been crying out for in this team So far this has been a really good window. Kepa Norgaard Zubemendi Madueke Gyokeres Mosquera looks like he's coming in and if we can get Eze, and possibly Rodrygo or another LWF then this will be a great window
Potentially a great window. We've brought in 6 new players a couple of times over the last 5 years and it does take time for a squad to gel. I suppose the upside is most of the players we're bringing in are likely backups to provide depth.
This is where we fell off over the last 2/3 seasons, lack of depth When our starting XI were all fit, we could beat anybody. But injuries and fatigue have cost us because the margins between winning and coming 2nd are so small We also badly missed a striker last season, and had to make Merino work up front.
Sigh - according to Romano, Porto have now changed their mind and are asking for more money PLUS guaranteed add-ons. Their president is a dick head.
Arsenal have really improved with their purchasing in the last 5 years, Rice was a great buy, I think Gyokeres will be too and I wouldnt even underestimate Madueke. The lads 23 and has PL experience, a change of scenery might be exactly what he needs. Where you guys need to improve is your selling, you guys are ****ing terrible sellers. I looked up your top 5 record player sales in terms of money......and I was flabbergasted..... 1. Oxlaide-Chamberlain 2017 to Liverpool £38m 2. Nicolas Anelka 2000 to Real Madrid £35m 3. Alexis Sanchez 2017 to Man United £34m 4. Cesc Fabregas 2011 to Barca £34m 5. Emile Smith Rowe 2025 to Fulham £31.8m The fact that the most you have ever sold a player for is £38m is shocking to me, and I didnt realise that was the case. Also the fact that Anelka is your second highest, a player you sold 25 years ago.....words fail me..... Ozil, Aubameyang, Henry, Sanchez, you have had some HUGE players on your books over the years in terms of talent, and the most you have ever recouped for anyone is Oxlaide-Chamberlain?!? Jeez! You need some help in the market opportunity department. People laugh at Chelsea for the massive squad and player turnover and players who get loaned out, but its the reason we are able to spend as we do (as well as some, lets say, creative, property deals of course).
Prices have gone up a lot over the last decade and that period coincided with a stagnation at Arsenal where the players we had seriously underperformed (and subsequent declining values) - and then a rebuild with young players which has meant we have not been selling our best players recently.
Looks like we have fully agreed the 63.5m euros + 10m add ons... but for all intents and purposed the addons are easy. So we can assume a fee of 73.5m euros That's basically £63.5m All speculation of course as we'll never really know the fee, but if true then it's reasonable IF Gyokeres gets 20 PL goals and we win a trophy.
Refer Bodinki 1. Oxlaide-Chamberlain 2017 to Liverpool £38m 2. Nicolas Anelka 2000 to Real Madrid £35m 3. Alexis Sanchez 2017 to Man United £34m 4. Cesc Fabregas 2011 to Barca £34m 5. Emile Smith Rowe 2025 to Fulham £31.8m Based on the dates we sold and taking into account inflation, in today's market I'd have thought - AOC £55m Anelka £80m Sanchez £60m Fabregas £80-90m So it's all relative. But yeah we were average when it came to maximising selling fees due to the fact we had a bad habit of letting contracts run down!
