It's that time again. I'm a glutton for punishment.

Same scoring rules as last season - unless you want to try something different. Post any suggestions in this thread and we'll let mob rule dictate:D.

To any that don't know, I will post 6 Premier League games from each round of fixtures. All you have to do is try to predict the correct score for each.

The scoring system rewards higher scoring correct predictions with more points.

Correct score = 3 points PLUS a point per goal scored
Correct Result = 1 point PLUS an extra point if the predicted goals for either team is correct
Wrong result = 0 points PLUS an extra point if the predicted goals for either team is correct

    Example...

    Result = 2-0
Prediction = 0-0 scores 1 point (wrong result but gets a bonus point)
Prediction = 1-0 scores 2 points (right result and a bonus point)
Prediction = 2-0 scores 5 points (Correct score so gets 3 points + the 2 goals scored)
Prediction = 2-1 scores 2 points (right result and a bonus point)
Prediction = 3-1 scores 1 points (right result but no bonus)
Prediction = 2-2 scores 1 point (wrong result but gets a bonus point)
Prediction = 2-3 scores 1 point (wrong result but gets a bonus point)
    Predictions of 0-1, 1-1, 1-2 and 0-2 would all score 0 points.

Ideally please try to enter all your predictions before the earliest match in the round kicks off as this means I can collect everybody's predictions at the same time. If you do miss a kick-off you can still play any later games in that round. If you try to predict a game once that game as kicked off, your prediction will be void.

Could a kind mod please sticky this?

It might be fun to predict red cards for a team in a game. 1 point for that.

My only point would be that someone getting a correct result deserves to get more points than someone getting one teams score correct.

Ie the game ends 5 - 0, and yet someone picking 0 - 0 or 5 - 6 gets the same number of points as some who predicted a 6 - 1 victory.

It's the type of system that doesn't favour my prediction style, but just wanted to offer it as a suggestion.

Obviously if everyone's happy leaving things as they are then no problem, I'll still be playing. I just need to decide on what this seasons prediction method is going to be :emoticon-0102-bigsm

We used to play this at one of the places I worked,we had it as 4 points for the win(regardless of score),2 for a draw(same again) and 1 extra bonus point for if you got it bob on ...so obviously a correct score of 2-1 got you 5 points a 2-0 got you 4....same with draw correct score of 1-1 got you 3pts, 0-0 got you the 2pts...it worked for us morons anyway <cheers>.... either way I'm in :emoticon-0140-rofl:

When I was first looking for a new scoring system I ran several point-scoring simulations using previous season's results and predictions. Amongst the scoring methods I included things like extra points for accuracy of goal difference or team score and even minus points for predictions that were way off. Unfortunately these had little impact due to the majority of results being 1-0,2-1,1-1 and these also being the most predicted. In fact, those going for less common predictions were overly penalised for being adventurous. This ultimately led me to the conclusion of rewarding correct goals scored.

I did think about restricting the number of same score lines that could be used each round. That would stop the blanket 1-0 or 2-1 approach used by some;) .

Sorry Aski. I had a bit of brain-fade there. We could have 2 points for correct result. Might need to increase the correct score points from 3 though as a correct 0-0 would only be worth 1 more point than a 1-1,2-2,6-6 etc. prediction<whistle>

    No worries Stonks :emoticon-0148-yes:

I did think about mentioning that points for an actually correct score might need to be increased as well, but rather than add an additional requirement/request, I would see what the initial reaction was going to be. Plus of course I knew you would spot the need for it, once you read my suggestion.

Does that mean that you wouldn't be impressed with suggestions of predicting number of corners, throw ins, offsides and fouls conceded either. No sense of adventure :emoticon-0140-rofl:
