Just to clarify I don't rate Bob Dylan but after the first album that was just covers there is an album that should be in there for the GOAT arguments. The Times They Are a Changing is something that may not be repeated. I'm certainly not convinced by the arguments for Blonde on Blonde or Blood on The Tracks, they don't even come close.
Blood on the Tracks was recorded during his divorce I think. Hence a very personal, introspective album, full of sadness bordering on self pity. Some great lyrics though. “Only thing I knew how to do Was to keep on keeping on like a bird that flew tangled up in blue…”
I think it's that still raw and very folk based sound that draws me to the album I mentioned. Have you seen the recent film? It's very good.
Yeah, loved the movie. Chalomet was pretty good as Dylan, but Edward Norton showed his absolute acting genius as Pete Seeger. If you watch old clips of Seeger on YouTube, it’s hard to tell Edward Norton from the real guy. The bird playing Joan Baez was excellent also. Don’t know if you’ve seen the documentary Don’t Look Back, about Dylan in the U.K. in the 60s, when he first went electric? Well worth seeking out if you haven’t.
I like his early stuff but wouldn't go see him. He tends to play what he wants nowadays and it's a mix of covers and blues tracks mixed in with his catalogue.
