Well I have just watched England U21 dominate the dutch, start to finish. Sign them all.

In all seriousness there is so much talent in that group. Anderson and Scott are such talents and Harvey Elliott needs a real place to shine. Cresswell made a mistake, otherwise he was unreal. These lads are levels above some of our links tbf.

It wouldn't shock me to see Newcastle spend double the money to bring Anderson back in a couple of years time. It was really short term thinking of them to let him go. I'm sure they'll all prefer to have Tonali but I'd have been looking forward to Anderson and Miley in midfield for a decade if I was them.

Have you met KS ? If not I IMHO and that's all it is my opinion.
No i dont think they will be best buddies, but could work together for now.
In fact they will have to work together for now.

the problem is they come with the English tax so will cost lots more as well. And you’ve named 3 players that play for established premier league clubs so it’s no surprise they’re better than our links.

Agreed. Liverpool would want 30m at least for Elliot. The English youth at under 21 level are pretty much unattainable for us. It's the prime market and inflated as hell. There are some quality players in that group but it's defo the English, prem tax.

Be surprised if KS is here in 12 months mind. That said, likely to depend on our progression in the prem.

Maybe there is a reason they come with an English tax? More likely to succeed.

I do understand the sense of value for money. But some of these links / players speculated on look some way behind or carrying risk.

One argument rattling round my head. We sell English players, cant we buy English players? Just one example is Cresswell who looks elite level and ready. Him or a bit of a risk on a lad from Italy? At some point minimising risk has to come into it...
The English tax is because PL clubs have more money than clubs in Europe, so therefore can demand a higher price. Cresswell is an example of that, Como are getting him for a good price while players at English clubs will go for higher - because their teams can demand it

No doubt about it, Cresswell, and a number of others in that team, are going to be very good PL players. But clubs with deeper pockets than ours will be looking too.

Good side though, no weak links on that showing.

I think the PSR question hamstrings us. Particularly in the early stages we have to prioritise value for money almost over all. Those two years of basic level champ losses leave us more limited than any other PL team in what we can spend. Getting past that - and reducing the total volume of work we need to do - and homegrown players start to make more sense.

I see you point about the imbalance.

But PSR is only really a factor if you maximise your allowed losses. I can't see anything in the way KLD has ran the club, and nor would I want to, that suggests we will do that.

I wonder if we can be smart about our deals to alleviate this situation.

For example, if we wanted to a deal with Liverpool for Elliot (example only) could we drive a bargain by giving them first refusal on Trey O in 2 years time. It may be more of an argument if we wanted someone like Morton who wont have a long queue of clubs waving a cheque book.

I am not against the foreign lads at all. The proposed deal for the keeper would be an outstanding one. I just look at the English u21s and u19s and see the best young talent in Europe. Be nice to be a home for some of them

Think I've said a few times over the years our core should be young English players, either ones from our academy or buying from others (like we did with Cirkin ballard etc.)

I think we will be looking at homegrown talents 1st of all then if the value isn't there looking abroad

Didnt Smith-Rowe go for upwards of like £30m? Elliot has proven a lot more than he did at that time imo. Probably end up at some top half side as their big summer signing.

Unless Speakman works his magic and gets a loan with an obligation or something depending on staying up. Not realistic though and think Elliot will want to play at a higher level.

Agree. Particularly as some of the overseas acquisitions haven't worked out....thinking of Ekwah,Ba,Aouchiche,Pembele,Rusyn,Hemir...etc.

Generous loan fee for Liverpool plus obligation on staying up would allow us to effectively commit to a larger overall fee. If we go down and Eliot has a lot more game time under his belt and shows what he is capable of Liverpool have an asset worth a lot more to either market or retain. Don’t think it’s outwith the realm of possibility, needs a really good sales pitch to both parties though.
