Yeah it seems remarkably similar to what happened down here really. In that someone inherited a club they probably didn't massively want and while succeess continued for a while it was never going to long term.
The fact that pretty much all of the plans for redevelopment of the ground seem to have been put on the back burner, with those costs not being subject to spending rules, speaks volumes IMO.
